New Acquisitions
3B/2B/SS Jack "Lucky" Lohrke, 1952: In his second to last season as a major leaguer, Jack Lohrke appeared in 25 games for the Phillies in his first of two seasons with them. It came mostly off the bench, and he hit .207/.303/.207 in 33 plate appearances. A Yankee and Philly, most of his playing time came as a Rookie in 1947 where he hit .240/.334/.401 with 11 homers and 35 RBI's. He finished a short career with a .242/.325/.375 line in 1,052 PA's scattered across 7 big league seasons. He was needed as starting 2B Joe Gerhardt will miss at least a month with a high ankle sprain.

Team Summary
WE BROKE OUR ALL TIME WIN RECORD!!!

AND IT'S JUST JUNE!!!

Another 4 wins for the Royals and we sit just 2 away from double digit wins. Interesting enough, there are 17 pitchers with more career wins then our 21 as a team. Mordecai Brown (33) is the All Time win leader and he paces us by an impressive 12 total wins. On the season, a pair of Isotopes hurlers Dupee Shaw and Eppa Rixey have 8 wins a piece with Houston's Brown just 1 behind at 7.

"Superstar" Al Wingo (1.2) has came down to earth a bit, as his line dropped to .350/.447/.515 and he has 2 homers and 38 RBI's. He hasn't been efficient in stealing, however, and he's just 11-for-20. He does, however, have more walks (35) then strikeouts (24). Just bench player Chuck Tanner (0.2) joins him in positive WAR, as his 101 OPS+ (.314/.338/.457) and 2 homers and 14 RBI's would make him a starter for sure if he didn't play the same position (LF) as Wingo.

The newly acquired 2B Jack Lohre (-0.0) is the closest we have to a true replacement player on offense at the half way point. Since the Gerhardt injury, he's hitting .218/.333/.333 with 2 homers, 2 steals, and 12 RBI's. He hasn't been great on defense, with a -1.6 Zone Rating, so with slightly better defense he'll be a perfect 0.0 WAR player.

We've got two players worse less the -1.0 WAR, with Dick Schofield (-1.4) and Joe Ginsberg (-1.1) receiving those honors. Schofield did heat up a ton, and his pitiful batting line is up to a significantly better .227/.304/.263 with 3 steals and 15 driven in. He hit .302/.388/.340 for the month, and had an almost identical amount of walks (15) and strikeouts (16). Ginsburg is now hitting .216/.306/.222 with 11 RBI's on the season. Backup catcher Roy Graham (-0.9) has been even worse, as his .140/.140/.220 line has come in about a third of Ginsburg's at bats. CF Felix Mantilla (-0.5) leads the team with 5 homers, Preston Ward (-0.6) leads with 39 RBI's, and Wingo has scored an impressive 55 times.

The pitching fought threw a lot of injuries, but still maintained a few positive WAR contributors. Jim Owens (0.7) somehow leads the team despite being 0-8 with a 7.79 ERA, 1.97 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts in 54.1 innings pitched. Moe Drabowsky (0.5), who I would think is better, is 3-8 with a 5.24 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, and 68 strikeouts in 68.2 innings. But, he's just as valuable as Mike Moore (0.5) who is 0-8 with a 7.23 ERA, 2.07 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts in 61 innings. Swingman Jakie May (0.4) has made 5 starts and 8 relief appearances, working to a 6.95 ERA and 2.23 WHIP. He's 1-5 with more walks (16) then strikeouts (14).

Joe Grzenda is a perfect replacement player, working to a 4.24 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 13 strikeouts and 9 walks in 17 innings.

A pair of starters Mike Oquist (-1.2) and Joel Davis (-1.1) both have accumulated less then -1 WAR. Oquist is 1-6 with a 9.39 ERA, 3.00 WHIP, and 33 walks with just 17 strikeouts in 30.2 innings. Davis has managed 28.1 innings, going 0-5 with an impressive 13.02 ERA, 3.32 WHIP, and 38 walks with 15 strikeouts. I'd say Davis season is actually impressive, as it is hard to do that poor. 10 pitchers, counting Davis and Oquist, have ERA's north of 9, although a few have less then 5 innings to go with it. Our team leader in WHIP and ERA is Grzenda's 1.41 and 4.24 while Drabowsky's 68 strikeouts is a team best.

League Summary:
We've got a new team on top as the 34-18 Isotopes hold a 1 game lead over the Hawks. Albuquerque almost swept the Monthly awards, as Chuck Klein (.373, 14 HR, 44 RBI) and Eppa Rixey (6-0, 1.53 ERA, 49 K) were batter and pitcher of the month. Klein's line jumped to .333/.398/.680 and he has 19 homers and 61 RBI's on the season while Rixey dropped his ERA way down to 2.93, his WHIP to 1.23, and his record sits at 8-2 with 70 strikeouts. Don Hurst's (.394, 16 HR, 67 RBI) breakout could be why Klein's numbers have gone up, as pitchers have been attacking him with fear of Hurst. Dupee Shaw (8-1, 2.62 ERA) paired with Rixey gives the Isotopes a dominate 1-2 punch with both Mel Stottlemyre Sr. (4-4, 3.35 ERA) and Bruce Kison (5-3, 3.17 ERA) comprising a solid 3-4.

Boise can easily catch them, however, as Rookie of the Month LF Danny Schnell (.342, 5 HR, 19 RBI) could be an important part of the lineup as the season goes by. He didn't play much in April, but is hitting .316 with 6 homers and 22 RBI's on the season. Dave Parker (.318, 12 HR, 52 RBI) and Jerry Denny (.283, 12 HR, 44 RBI) are supplying the power, and Lew Fonseca (.377, 6 HR, 47 RBI) is making a run at the batting title. Both Paul Hines (.324, 8 HR, 34 RBI) and Solly Hoffman (.336, 6 HR, 44 RBI) may get overlooked in a strong lineup, but they are both dependable options. The rotation is anchored by Sandy Koufax (4-3, 2.48 ERA), although he hasn't gotten the run support he deserves. Jack Pfiester (7-3, 3.35) may not be on Rixey's level, but the Hawks have a strong #2 of their own.

It does look like a 2 man race, as the third place Buffaloes are 6 games behind the leading Isotopes. Backstop Spud Davis (.402, 5 HR, 42 RBI) leads the league in average, and he has competition from his own teammate Frank Chance (.370, 5 HR, 45 RBI). Fred Schulte's (.231, 7 HR, 35 RBI) struggles continued, but with no one else stepping up in his place. Mordecai Brown (7-3, 3.38 ERA) and Claude Hendrix (4-4, 2.48 ERA) have been dependable on the mound, but the rest of the rotation leaves much to be desired.

A game behind them are both Reading and Norwich. For the Phillies, both Don Drysdale (7-3, 2.65 ERA) and Pete Donohue (6-3, 3.22 ERA) had much better May numbers then April, but the bottom three haven't put up desirable numbers. The lineup has power with outfielders Richie Zisk (.273, 10 HR, 36 RBI), Cliff Caroll (.305, 9 HR, 35 RBI) and Albert Belle (.240, 12 HR, 35 RBI) as well as 1B Fernando Seguignol (.302, 9 HR, 21 RBI). Clete Boyer has launched 11 homers, but he finds himself in the 9 hole as he doesn't put the ball in play (.204) or get on base (.269). For the Navigators, it seems like former Pitcher of the Year David Cone (5-4, 3.31 ERA) looks to silence those who thinks he's washed up, as he went 3-2 with a 0.98 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts for the month. Other then Babe Ruth (.280, 19 HR, 36 RBI, 6-1, 4.67 ERA), he doesn't have too much help. Al Oliver (.309, 12 HR, 45 RBI) and more or less Derek Jeter (.327, 2 HR, 33 RBI) have helped on offense, but this doesn't look like a pennant winning team.

Portland sits 8 out at 26-26, but actually has a really solid 2-3-4 on the mound with Al Downing (6-3, 3.62 ERA), Fritz Peterson (6-2, 3.45 ERA), and rookie Jake Arrieta (3-1, 3.54 ERA). Ace Fred Beebe (3-4, 4.20 ERA) continues to walk too many hitters (43), and his WHIP sits at 1.75. Pete Browning (.412, 8 HR, 31 RBI) just played 1 game in May before suffering a herniated disc, and he'll be back in about a week or two. Prince Fielder (.350, 18 HR, 53 RBI) has carried the offense in his absence, with just Richie Hebner (.293, 6 HR, 41 RBI) offering any other help.

Dayton is just a game under .500, but could possibly fall even farther as Dolf Luque (5-3, 4.04 ERA) is awaiting injury diagnosis. Jerry Reuss (5-3, 2.71 ERA) has been the much better pitcher, but the bottom three in the rotation have continued less then ideal stats to the season. The offense has some bright spots in Bernie Williams (.341, 7 HR, 33 RBI), Tom Tresh (.286, 12 HR, 42 RBI), and Paul O'Neil (.302, 5 HR, 40 RBI). I'd be surprised if Dayton finishes above .500, and will likely fall off and sell during the next month.

Team Summary
It was our worst month of the season, but we managed to reach double digits wins on the season!

Al Wingo (1.2) maintained his WAR with his .322/.404/.468 line with 3 homers and 51 RBI's. He's also swiped 17 bags. A regular finally joined the positive WAR, with Jim Finigan sitting at just 0.1. The third basemen is hitting .279/.326/.354 with 2 homers and 40 RBI's. Chuck Tanner (0.3), the bench player, is hitting .294/.339/.413 with 3 homers and 18 runs driven in as he's up to 109 at bats on the season.

Dick Schofield (-2.0) and Joe Ginsberg (-1.9) continue their "rise" in the negatives. Schofield is hitting .235/.307/.291 with a homer, 4 steals, and 26 runs driven in. Ginsberg is hitting just .207/.287/.223 with 20 runs driven in.Roy Graham (-1.1) still remains above -1.0, but bench player Harry Bright (-0.9) is attempting to eclipse negative one. Felix Mantilla (-0.8) has now slugged 9 homers and 38 RBI's with a .196/.262/.308. Preston Ward (-0.6) is hitting .263/.304/.373 with 7 homers and 61 RBI's.

Moe Drabowsky (0.9) is approaching 1 as his record of 4-11 with a 4.38 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and 99 strikeouts in his 16 starts on the season. Jim Owens (0.8) and Mike Moore (0.5) still somehow remain positive. Owens is 1-9 with a 6.67 ERA, 1.79 WHIP, and 59 strikeouts. Moore is 0-13 with a 6.23 ERA, 1.92 WHIP, and 79 strikeouts.

Grzenda remains a perfect replacement player, working to a 4.30 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts in 23 innings.

Mike Oquist (-2.1) has been beyond bad, going 1-11 with a 12.15 ERA, 2.98 WHIP, and 47 walks with 28 strikeouts in 53.1 innings. Herm Wehmeier (-1.3), Joel Davis (-1.2), and Phil J. Clark (-1.1) have all been worth less then a full win above replacement. Wehmeier has an 8.66 ERA, 2.55 WHIP, and 23 strikeouts with 21 walks. Davis is 0-5 in 31.1 innings with a 12.06 ERA, 3.19 WHIP, 42 walks, and 16 strikeouts. Clark has a 11.08 ERA, 3.04 WHIP, 30 walks and 19 strikeouts.

League Summary:
Boise bounced back into first. At 50-30, they have a 1 game lead over the Isotopes. It was an interest start to May, as the Hawks sent C Jim Leyritz to Dayton for SP Old Hoss Radbourn and 2B Jimmy Paredes. Radbourn (7-7, 4.61 ERA) has slotted in the five spot of the rotation. With Ed Crane (.270, 16 HR, 51 RBI) as a strong catcher, they were able to improve an already impressive rotation headlined by June Pitcher of the Month Sandy Koufax (9-3, 2.30 ERA) and Danny McDevitt (5-3, 2.22 ERA). The 3-4-5 of Dave Parker (.325, 20 HR, 81 RBI), CF Paul Hines (.351, 12 HR, 52 RBI), and Jerry Denny (.289, 17 HR, 73 RBI) are impressive and Solly Hoffman (.337, 9 HR, 56 RBI) and Lew Fonseca (.359, 8 HR, 67 RBI) are excellent starts to the lineup.

Albuquerque didn't make a June move, and they dropped from the top spot in the standings. The front four of Dupee Shaw (12-2, 3.03 ERA), Eppa Rixey (10-4, 3.65 ERA), Mel Stottlemyre Sr (6-7, 3.19 ERA), and Bruce Kison (7-4, 3.46 ERA) is unrivaled and 2021 5th Round Pick Ralph Works (4-0, 0.85 ERA) has been excellent in a swing man role. They have a solid 3-4 as well with Chuck Klein (.343, 27 HR, 86 RBI) and Don Hurst (.386, 19 HR, 93 RBI).

Reading isn't out of it yet, but sit three back of the Hawks. Another 5th Round Pick, this one from 2000, 1B Fernando Seguignol (.287, 17 HR, 46 RBI) took home Rookie of the Month. He's added power to Richie Zisk (.282, 14 HR, 49 RBI) and Albert Belle (.253, 24 HR, 61 RBI) for a solid 3-4-5. Cliff Carroll (.316, 12 HR, 51) and Richie Stennett (.327, 9 HR, 57 RBI) sit at the top in a potent offensive attack. The pitching is solid as well, with a dependable front four of Don Drysdale (11-4, 3.14 ERA), Pete Donohue (10-5, 2.74 ERA), Dock Ellis (8-7, 3.88 ERA), and Stan Williams (6-3, 3.43 ERA).

Three teams bunch up next with Norwich (44-36), Houston (42-38), and Dayton (42-38). The Navigators have an improving 1-2 of Babe Ruth (9-3, 4.00 ERA, .313, 26 HR, 56 RBI) and David Cone (9-6, 3.19 ERA) and Ruth have some support in the form of Al Oliver (.302, 20 HR, 75 RBI) . The Buffaloes are headlined by Batter of the Month Fred Schulte (.280, 14 HR, 70 RBI) who hit .375 with 7 homers and 35 driven in. Frank Chance (.325, 9 HR, 64 RBI) and Spud Davis (.357, 6 HR, 63 RBI) are more or less the only other competent hitters. Claude Hendrix (6-7, 2.47 ERA) tops the rotation and has support from Andy Pettitte (10-6, 4.16 ERA), Mordecai Brown (9-6, 3.84 ERA), and Charlie J. Ferguson (4-2, 3.79 ERA, .313, 3 HR, 39 RBI). The Dragons have been let down by their pitching, but Jerry Reuss (10-3, 2.71 ERA) has been shouldering the load by himself with Dolf Luque still hurt. Both Anibal Sanchez (4-4, 6.16 ERA) and Bob Wicker (7-4, 6.41 ERA) have been awful with Joe McIntosh (4-3, 4.81 ERA) not much better. On offense, Tom Tresh (.300, 24 HR, 69 RBI), Bernie Williams (.326, 17 HR, 68 RBI), and Norm Laker (.329, 6 HR, 45 RBI) have been solid.

15 games behind the Isotopes and 7 games behind the Buffaloes and Dragons. Pete Browning (.414, 12 HR, 50 RBI) is back, but the team hasn't dropped to 10 under .500. Prince Fielder (.295, 25 HR, 77 RBI) has slugged everything that has come his way, but there's not much else behind him. Fred Beebe (5-7, 3.53 ERA) and Jake Arrieta (5-3, 3.18 ERA) have been a little help in the rotation, but it isn't stable enough for them to complete.

Team Summary
It wasn't the best month possible, but our All-Time win record is now set at 13, as we finished the year 13-87. We also finished last in every pitching category and last in every hitting category except strikeouts (1st) and walks (5th).

Looking at the leaderboards, Al Wingo finished 5th in average (.333), 6th in on base percentage (.409), third in doubles (31), 1st in triples (7), and tied for 6th in walks (52). We also had five of the top 6, with Portland's Al Downing sneaking in at 5th, loss totals with Mike Moore (16), Mike Oquist (14), Moe Drabowksy (13), Jim Owens (12), and Jakie May (10). Mike Forniels was 8th in saves (6). Moore was tied for fourth with most walks (61).

Other then the 9 games Pancho Herrera (0.1) got in to, just Al Wingo (1.8) managed a positive WAR. He had a great season, hitting .333/.409/.484 with 5 homers, 56 RBI's, and 23 stolen bases. Chuck Tanner (-0.1) just barely missed a perfect season, ending the season with a .254/.297/.370 line with 4 homers and 19 RBI's.

Two players were worth less then -2.0 WAR, with Dick Schofield (-2.2) and Joe Ginsberg (-2.1) the culprits. Schofield hit .230/.298/.296 with 2 homers and 38 RBI's. Ginsberg hit .210/.298/.252 with 2 homers and 33 RBI's. Backup catcher Roy Graham (-1.6) was the only other player worth less then one win, as his impressive .122/.186/.211 line with 2 homers and 13 RBI's is one of the worst possible seasons there is. And it lasted just 34 games. Harry Bright (-0.9) just missed the -1 WAR mark, hitting .179/.250/.214 in 43 games with just 7 runs driven in. Preston Ward (-0.6) wasn't too terrible, hitting .272/.311/.370 with 6 homers and 64 RBI's. Felix Mantilla (-0.4) reached double digit homers with 12 to go with 59 RBI's and a .216/.286/.337.

On the pitching side, two starters surpassed 1 WAR, those being Jim Owens (1.4) and Moe Drabowsky (1.2). I'm convinced Drabowsky is much better, as 6-13 with a 4.79 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and 120 strikeouts is a lot better then Owens' 1-12 with a 6.13 ERA, 1.85 WHIP, and 78 strikeouts. Just Mike Moore (0.1) and Joe Grzenda (0.1) were also positive, as both just barley missed perfect seasons. Moore was 0-16 with a 7.18 ERA, 2.01 WHIP, and 92 strikeouts while the reliever Grzenda was 1-1 with a 4.13 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 19 strikeouts, and a single save before a sprained ankle cut his season short.

Mike Oquist (-2.0) lead the team in negative WAR, finishing 1-14 with a 12.09 ERA, 2.93 WHIP, and a lot more walks (54) then strikeouts (32). Reliever Herm Wehmeier (-1.9) almost passed him, finishing with a 8.44 ERA, 2.48 WHIP, and 26 walks and strikeouts before his season ended with a sprained elbow. Both Joel Davis (-1.5) and Phil J. Clark (-1.1) were the last below -1. Davis was 0-7 with an 11.23 ERA, 3.02 WHIP, and an impressive 0.34 K/BB ratio. Clark had a 9.96 ERA, 2.97 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts. Molly Croft (-0.1) owned an impressive 3.30 WHIP in 23.2 innings with a 11.03 ERA, 18 walks, and 15 strikeouts. Ron Moeller (-0.7) had just 13.2 innings, but an astronomical 19.76 ERA, 3.37 WHIP, and 15 walks with 8 strikeouts. Jakie May (-0.2) was 1-10 with a 9.13 ERA, 2.35 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts split between the rotation and pen.

League Summary:
Boise (63-37) managed to hold off Albuquerque (61-39) to take home their second pennant. The Hawks order was fueled by an impressive 1 through 5 of Solly Hoffman (.338, 15 HR, 78 RBI), Lou Fonseca (.361, 11 HR, 84 RBI), Dave Parker (.332, 26 HR, 99 RBI), Paul Hines (.356, 19 HR, 73 RBI), and Jerry Denny (.283, 23 HR, 95 RBI). The rotation wasn't as strong as it has been in the past, but a 1-2 of Sandy Koufax (10-5, 2.71 ERA) and Danny McDevitt (7-4, 2.68 ERA) followed by an above average season from Jack Pfiester (10-6, 4.00 ERA).

The Isotopes were just two back, but it wasn't due to a lack of production from batting title champion Don Hurst (.381, 25 HR, 109 RBI) or the powerful slugger Chuck Klein (.318, 32 HR, 105 RBI). They also boasted the best rotation with a really impressive front five of Dupee Shaw (16-3, 3.07 ERA), Eppa Rixey (11-5, 3.62 ERA), Bruce Kison (10-5, 3.27 ERA), Mel Stottlemyre Sr. (7-7, 3.37 ERA), and Snipe Hansen (4-3, 4.13 ERA). With an upgrade in the lineup that can come from trading either Hansen or the other competitor for the #5 spot Ramiro Mendoza (2-5, 4.88 ERA, 1.52 WHIP), the Isotopes could claim the top spot next year.

Last year's champions, the Reading Phillies (58-42) fell 5 short of first. They also had a solid starting five of Pete Donohue (11-5, 2.64 ERA), Don Drysdale (13-6, 3.80 ERA), Dock Ellis (9-9, 3.63 ERA), Stan Williams (9-4, 4.06 ERA), and Jumbo Elliot (8-8, 4.63 ERA). The offense could use a little improvement, with the only real threats Albert Belle (.266, 31 HR, 81 RBI), Cliff Carroll (.321, 14 HR, 61 RBI), and Rennie Stennett (.326, 9 HR, 74 RBI). Rookie all-or-nothing slugging first basemen Fernando Seguignol (.267, 19 HR, 55 RBI) had a solid debut year, and will look to build off of it next season.

Further out were the trio of Norwich (55-45), Dayton (53-47), and Houston (52-48). It was the best finish for the Navigators, as the brilliant Babe Ruth (.323, 32 HR, 68 RBI, 11-4, 4.14 ERA) continues to be a star on both sides of the field. David Cone's (12-7, 3.81 ERA) renaissance is a good sign for a team without many pitching options. Rookie Chris Capuano (1-3, 4.98 ERA) got his first taste and could improve for next season. On offense Al Oliver (.311, 22 HR, 87 RBI) was Ruth's only protection. The Dragons, on the other hand, had their worst finish as All World Ace Dolf Luque (6-5, 4.66 ERA) was never quite the same after his oblique strain at the end of May. Jerry Reuss (14-3, 2.74 ERA) put up Pitcher of the Year numbers, but the bottom three all had ERA's north of 5. On offense, both Bernie Williams (.325, 21 HR, 84 RBI) and Tom Tresh (.296, 31 HR, 82 RBI) had excellent seasons, but sophomore Nick Swisher (.260, 17 HR, 69 RBI) still hasn't taken the next step into becoming that scary cleanup hitter lineups always strive for. The Buffaloes didn't have a strong lineup either, with just Frank Chance (.328, 10 HR, 78 RBI) and Frank Schulte (.284, 22 HR, 92 RBI) on the radar of opposing pitchers. Rookie Charlie Ferguson (.309, 4 HR, 46 RBI, 4-3, 4.29 ERA) may eventually join them, and he definitely improved on the mound as the season went on. He'll fill a strong rotation with Claude Hendrix (8-9, 2.74 ERA), Andy Pettite (11-8, 3.91 ERA), Mordecai Brown (10-8, 3.71 ERA), and Jim Rooker (7-4, 4.15 ERA).

As expected, Portland (45-55) fell to the "cellar" despite being 32 games above us. A half season of budding star Pete Browning (.396, 16 HR, 61 RBI) definitely contributed to it, as Prince Fielder (.303, 29 HR, 95 RBI) couldn't do it all by himself. They actually had a solid top two in the rotation with Fred Bebee (8-8, 3.13 ERA) and Fritz Peterson (11-6, 3.85 ERA). The team as a whole, however, is plagued with weaknesses, but a top prospect class of RHP Jake Arrieta (#1, 5-5, 3.78 ERA), 2B Jeff Frye (#6, .229 3 HR 28 RBI), and CF Marquis Grissom (#7, .246, 1 HR, 6 RBI) could lead to a bright future. Interesting enough, however, Arrieta wasn't on the final active roster, but did make 15 starts while Frye was used mainly as an injury replacement for Browning and Grissom ended the year on the DL.
