The Bronx Bombers - A New Era Dynasty

2019 Season Preview

As the grass thawed at Yankee Stadium, a young Canadian of the name of Brad Ringer sits in his new office. In the same seat Mr. Cashman once sat in. Pulling the trigger on some last minute deals, Mr. Ringer begins to build his legacy in the most historic baseball city in America.

A great team core has allowed me to swing a couple deals before the beginning of the season to officially cement our position as pennant chasers before the first pitch on opening day is officially thrown.

Two significant signings have been made to help the team right away. The first one was a 1-year deal for Logan Morrison. On a cheap $3,000,000 contract the Yankees will be taking a shot on Morrison recovering his 2017 stroke where he hit 38 Home Runs and picked up 85 RBIs. Hopefully, a return to the AL East is just what Logan needs. For now he will platoon with Voit as New York looks to move Bird before opening day.

The other move has the Yankees signing Dallas Keuchel to a 3-year deal that includes a team option. Dallas will pitch at the back of the New York rotation and hopefully put together a strong season with less responsibility weighing on him. The $47,000,000 contract puts New York close to the cap for the time being but is hopefully worth it for a long run into October.

Following the signings GM Brad Ringer pulled the string on a couple deals to open up roster spots for their new signings. First, the Yankees sent Bird (who no longer has a spot w/ the Morrison signing) to Philadelphia, where he will get a fresh shot alongside Catching prospect Alex Guerrero. In return, the Yankees acquired IF Scott Kingery and RP Edubray Ramos. Two players who New York obviously feels have tremendous upside. Kingery will do a good job filling some infield gaps for the time being.

The final move was a deal that saw Tulowitzki dealt to Milwaukee with CF prospect Corey Ray coming the other way. Ray is another player who the Yankees believe has tremendous upside, putting up 27 homers and 74 RBIs up in AA last season.

2019 Season - March/April Recap

March/April Recap
"Yankees Streak Their Way Through April for 18-11 Record"

The Yankees relied on some late pre-season signings to help them through a rigid April which saw them lose Keuchel to the 60-Day DL and Stanton and Britton to the 15-Day DL early on.

It was newly acquired Kingery who saw some action at 2B, SS, CF and DH throughout the month of April and was able to stand up in Stanton's place, rounding up 20 RBIs (good enough for a tie of the team lead) and earning a crucial spot in the Yankees batting order.

Logan Morrison also had a big month of April, battling Luke Voit for field time and launching 6 bombs in the process.

Other than that it was the usual suspects on offence getting done with forces like Judge, LeMahieu, and Sanchez, and the emerging young stars in Andujar and Torres.

The Bullpen fronted by a back end of Britton-Green-Chapman was superb in April allowing the Yankees to lock down games late. The only piece that seems to be missing there is a lefty specialist.

Things were wonky in the rotation with significant losses like Keuchel and Severino. They continue to battle however, and hopefully can turn things around with Paxton's guidance in May.

Full Sails Ahead!

2019 Season - May Recap

May Recap
"Bombers Cool, Arms Heat Up in Status Quo May."

The Yankees red hot lineup cooled off as may progressed, but it was a strong month from the rotation arms that helped the Yankees keep pace with a very competitive AL East that has saw the Jays and O's to surprisingly strong starts (an O's team that happen to sweep us in May!!)

The offence was stingy at best, led by Stanton who returned from the DL to the tune of 9 HRs and 16 RBIs in May. Judge, Hicks, Sanchez, and Torres kept pace behind him combining for 28 home runs and 77 RBIs in May. The lineup cooled off on the final days of the month, but promising signs come from the core of the lineup.

The rotation was spectacular in May combining for a 4.37 ERA and 11-7 record. Happ led the way with a 3-0 record in the month, compiling a 2.21 ERA in the process. Tanaka was good as well with a 3.58 ERA and a 1-1 record. Paxton struggled with a 1-4 record and a 6.06 ERA in May but there's no concern that he won't be able to turn it back around.

The bullpen had its issues with the long ball in May giving up 13 homers but were able to hold on to their ERA crown compiling a 3.59 ERA in the month. 27-year old rookie Raynel Espinal was a surprise reliever to jump on this scene to the AL Best bullpen. He picked up 16 innings in May, picking up a 1.10 ERA and opponents hitting just .127 against the big Righty.

New York will have more help on the way with significant additions coming off the DL in May as the fight continues towards the AL East Crown.

Here's to a good June!

NOTES

SP CC Sabathia collected his 250th career win in May and passed 3500 IP in the MLB

The Yankees are actively trying to move OF Jacoby Ellsbury and are willing to take big contracts in return. With four days remaining until he returns from rehab New York is really kicking tires to try and get something done. Stay tuned

2019 Season - Draft Recap

2019 DRAFT

Statement from GM Brad Ringer:

"We feel very excited about this years draftees. We are very encouraged by the possibility of a lot of their development and cannot wait to see where it takes this group of young kids. I think we'll look back fondly on some of the names of the 2019 draft!"

2019 Season - June Transactions

June Transactions

Trade Summary:
Yankees Acquire Zimmermann in Swap of Overpaid Veterans

New York said goodbye to veteran Outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury today, who spent the better of six season with the Yankees (only dressed in four). Ellsbury finished with 39 home runs and 198 RBIs in 520 games in pinstripes. The Yankees added to low level prospects in the deal in order to get the Tigers to budge on taking Ellsbury's contract.

New York got veteran reliever Jordan Zimmermann in return who has two years left on his deal at $25,000,000 annually. GM Ringer said in a statement: "It wasn't about getting rid of the salary for us. It was about shifting the money to a different position, a position not in such a log jam. Zimmermann is a little more versatile as well. He can start, open, be a long man, be a mid reliever. We'll see where he fits in. I want to thank Ellsbury for his service as well. I wish him the best of luck in Detroit!"

2019 Season - June Recap

June Recap
"Injuries and Astros overshadow 16-10 June"

It was a rough month for the Yankees in the injury department. Currently having 3 of the 5 starters on the opening day roster on the DL along with Severino who has thrown a pitch yet this season. Tanaka, Sabathia, and the follower Zimmermann did an admirable job in June keeping the rotation in check (starters went 6-3 with a 4.64 ERA over 120.1 IP in the month) before Sabathia eventually went down to injury himself.

The Astros also gave the Yankees trouble in June. The potential ALCS matchup saw the Yanks drop 3 of 4 in the month and 6 of 7 overall in their season series. Pitching in those series were a concern for the Yankees but they believe the script will flip against Houston with a healthy rotation. (Who doesn't want to see Severino vs Cole in October!)

The bullpen saw lots of arms in and out in June, having their best month of the season in the progress. Compiling a 10-7 record with 8 saves, collecting a 2.98 ERA and an .193 OPP AVG in the month. Ottavino has been the odd man out in the pen with an ERA of 6.96 this season and rumours have it that New York could look to move of from Adam in June to give some young arms bigger roles.

Lastly, the bats were led by massive months from Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton collected 8 home runs and 20 RBIs in the month and has been on fire since his return from injury. Torres earned his way into the three spot in the Yankees lineup and emerged as the best all around batter on the team picking up 8 homers and 22 RBIs in June.

The grind towards the postseason continues!

NOTES

The Yankees are reportedly taking calls on SP Gio Gonzalez, OF Brett Gardner, and RP Adam Ottavino as they look to round out their crowded roster towards the playoffs. There's an emphasis on getting Espinal and Wivinis into the bullpen down the stretch as they continue to prove themselves at the MLB level. It will be a busy month leading up to the trade deadline!

2019 Season - July Transactions

July Transactions

Name: July Transactions.PNG
Views: 245
Size: 104.7 KB

Trade Summary:
Yankees Send Gonzalez to Rival Rays as Rotation Crowds

The Yankees were only set to part ways with Gio Gonzalez if they were going to receive a future asset in return. Arroyo is a player that New York fields could learn to play a few more positions in the infield and has great offensive potential. Gio performed admirably in his short time in the Bronx.

New York, Milwaukee Swap Relievers and Hands

The Yankees moved veteran pitcher Adam Ottavino and his lengthy contract to Milwaukee for a movable contract that they can send up and down as needed. That arm is Donnie Hart, who could prove a valuable lefty specialist in the future. New York and the Brewers swapped prospects finalizing the small details of the transaction.

Solarte Sent to New York in Late Deadline Day Deal

New York decided that the infield could use a boost to its infield with injuries to LeMahieu and Torres. They found Solarte for a very cheap price and have the ability to send him down or release him when the infield gets crowded again. A steal of a trade in the eyes of the Yankees!

2019 Season - July Recap

July Recap
"Yankees Scuffle, Fall Out of First Place in July Grind."

The first half of July was tough for the Yankees. The rotation became super thin as New York waited with their hands tied for their starters to get back.

Just as the starters returned the position players started to fall like flies. It was the rotation (at full capacity for the first time this season) that tried to keep things in check in an 12-13 July for the Bronx Bombers.

Despite a couple rough series against the Twins in the Red Sox (dropping the Yankees out of first place), New York feel they are in a good spot heading into the dog days of summer.

The injured Torres led the bats for most of the month. In 21 games he picked up 3 homers, 15 RBIs and batted .244. The offence really scuffled behind him.

The rotation got a big boost in the return of James Paxton who went 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA in his 4 starts in July as well as throwing a complete game. He looks to be a sparkplug down the stretch.

The bullpen saw an average month with nobody really standing out.

The battle starts to heat up in August! The Race for the East is on!

NOTES

RP Jonathan Holder (1x) and C Gary Sanchez (2x) were named American League all stars in July

The Yankees are going to look over some expiring contracts during the month of August. Possible updates to come.

2019 Season - August Recap

August Recap
"Dog Days Prove Tough For Yankees. Find a Way to Hang In Division Race."

It was another tough battle of a month as the Yankee bats continued their drought. Things came to a head in a 3 game series against the Dodgers in which LA walked one game off against Aroldis Chapman and blew the Bombers out in another. New York scuffled against some bottom dwellers to including the Athletics and Mariners but were able to recover winning the final 3 of 4 in August.

The depleted offence was led by a monstrous break out month by Miguel Andujar. In 27 games he picked up 9 home runs and 17 RBIs while batting .290. It was an admirable run as he put the lethargic bats no his back.

The staff was led by great months from Keuchel and Tanaka. Dallas picking up a 4-1 record with 4.05 ERA in August and Tanaka collecting a 2-1 record with a 2.54 ERA on his own. They will look to lead the Yankees through September.

The bullpen continued to perform steadily despite some struggles from Chapman. They'll look to get some help from September call ups and make some tweaks headed towards the postseason.

The playoffs are in sight. Time to get the job done!

NOTES

Happ will be subject to the bullpen for the remainder of the season as the Yankees have opted to go with a tighter 4 man rotation with some days of in September.

Britton will potentially be taking over for Chapman as the closer if Chapman continues to struggle. Aroldis will get an opportunity to save his job.

2019 Season - September Recap

September Recap
"Walk-Off Grand Slam Nixes Yankees Incredible September Run for the Division."

New York brought a division fight with the Sox down to the final game of the season. A final out away from forcing an AL East Tiebreaker game Britton gave up his second walk-off grand slam of the week, this time to the Texas Rangers second baseman Odor. That left two questions for the Yankees:

Who will start the wildcard game?
and
Who will close it?

Gary Sanchez had an explosive September leading the Yankees to a new franchise record 278 Home Runs as a team (beating their 2018 mark). The New York catcher put up 12 HR and 23 RBIs in just 21 games while batting an impressive .355 on the month. He managed to set new career highs in both home runs and RBIs.

The pitching was led once again by Masahiro Tanaka, who put up a 3-1 record with a 3.69 ERA in September. Severino got hot and looked more like an ace as the season winded down. He put up a 2-1 record with a 4.08 ERA in the month. It will be a tough decision between the two for the start against the Twins in the ALWC Game.

The bullpen had some trouble at the backend with Chapman and Britton playing hot potato with the closers role. At this point it is uncertain who could come in to get the final 6 outs of a postseason game.

It's time to get all hands on-deck and try to punch are ticket to Houston for the ALDS!

2019 Season - Post Season Recap

Postseason Recap
"Yankees Fall to Twins, Dodgers Capture Championship"

Severino was dealing before being forced to leave the AL Wild Card. Tanaka took over and pitched just as well.

In a 0-0 tie in the 7th inning, Britton came in and for the third appearance in a row dating back to the regular season gave up 3+ runs in a games work.

The Yankees offence that was electrifying all season could only come up with one run and had to watch the Twins celebrate long into the night.

The Dodgers would go on to defeat the Cleveland Indians in the World Series.

Changes are coming in New York as they set their sights on avoiding the Wild Card Game next year and going straight for the Division.
