Historical Leagues
I rarely see any straightforward Historical Leagues posting for openings anymore. I wonder if there are any left. Particularly ones that are in the 1901-1950 era. I used to commish the MLBC which started with OOTP2 with the 1905 season and lasted thru the 1980 season with OOTP 6.5 . Have been kicking the tires on maybe jumping back into joining a league but I don't ever see any that fit my criteria. Are there any historical leagues that use only historical players with historical league structure??? Seems they all are fictional, or random entry or some relegation type crap or some other hybrid league if they aren't modern leagues....

you aren't alone - I'm looking for exactly the same thing. Unfortunately have also seen the same thing around new leagues...

If the interest is there I can do it with 16 serious GM.
I'm pre-retire so I've plenty of time for running a League. 16 GM should be fun but we can start with 8. Pick 1 team in each division without trades between them. Just reply here & I'll see. Last edited by BigBen; 07-10-2014 at 10:05 PM. |

Yeah, well who gets to be the Yankees and who gets to be the Browns? That's a problem right off for straight historical leagues. I play some solo leagues historical, but in online leagues, people usually want something a bit more balanced.

That's why you start the league with a draft.....
and you can play without finances or with leveled market sizes... We are talking about historical players and historical league structure. I would argue that an historical league with an opening draft is the most balanced way to play because everyone knows the incoming rookies and how well they will perform.

Can also be the most boring way to play, because of those last factors ... Look, I'm a fan of historical play. But the phrase "straightforward historical" in your OP does not equate to historical fiction, which you are now describing.

Fiction is fictional players, fictional teams etc, using historical teams with historical players is historical. Don't be that guy....

Ok I need 3 more GM (1 team in each League without trades between them) or 11 to be an all human GM League. I'll not run a team, only as Commish.
Depending of the interest I'll contact Fidel asap to setup a League website. Here's what I thinking : Sim 1880 to 1900, erase all the history / records ect & dump all players in a draft. Before I'll run the draft I'll creating a financially balance League to be fair for everybody. Gm will know his players when they will pick their teams. Rating 1-100 / Scouts & Coaches on & I would like to implant a salary cap later. For the AMMY draft I'll use a lotery system only for the 1st round, the 3 worst record of each League will be in. For moving quickly I'll sim 7days every weekdays. More to come So far peoples interested : Jestre / Changewand / Silver Slugger / Bigdummie & Grandbudda. |

There is no point in having scouts and coaches in a historical league, all the players are known quantities. I would recommend using the reserve clause without free agency at least for awhile since there will be few extra players and filling positions can be difficult.

Thanks for those who has shown interest but unfortunately I'll pass this project.
After reflexions I think playing an historical League(1901) solo & online it's very different, solo you can finish your season in 1 week but online it's another story ... Simulate 5 seasons a year (and I'm very generous) we'll reach the Baseballs Rebirth Era in year 2018, the Golden Years Era in year 2023, the Baseball Boom Era in year 2026 ect ect ... that's no sense . That's maybe why we don't see opening often for this type of League ... Anyway sorry guys but life continue |

No prob, fyi when I commished the MLBC we ran about 7 1/2 seasons per year. We started with the 1905 season in the year 2000 and completed the 1980 season in the year 2009. We simmed a half month every M-W-F.
