Owners Dying

Please give us the ability to turn off owners dying. Or the ability to turn off owners altogether. I don't like seeing so much change in ownership especially when death comes into play. I play OOTP for entertainment and time away from reality.

People have brought this up before. It's not the big issue people make it out to be. Death happens in movies and books, why not OOTP? Nobody actually dies, it's just fictional. If it bothers you ignore it.

While I do agree with your basic premise, there's no reason why we shouldn't have the option to turn owners off. Even with the death aspect out of the picture, some people just might not like having an ownership turnover, regardless of how realistic it might be.

There is a reason to not have it. If you make it possible to 'turn off' and 'turn on' every feature and little thing in the game you're going to overwhelm some people. The complexity of OOTP is already pretty heavy for beginners. You need to prioritize what's important and leave the rest in an effort to not make things too complex.

Au contraire - the brilliance of OOTP is, in my opinion, the incredible level of customization you can have in your league. It also doesn't have to be overwhelming to a beginner - as it stands right now, what beginner is going to delve into custom financials? Or database editing? Those are FAR more complicated than a simple on/off switch for owners. The default setting would be on, and there's no reason to change it unless you're already experienced and looking to set up your own league. More customization options is NEVER a bad idea.

It's annoying. It damages the immersion. Owner fatality rates of 20% are unrealistic. The incidence of men naming their sons with the same name is not 99% in the real world.

I think the feature should be fixed, then there would be no reason to turn it off. In lieu of correcting the behavior, an off switch would be a nice option.

but on the other hand, if it's turned off i would hate now having a 112 year old owner

Doesn't matter. From my experience, OOTP doesn't read any of our suggestions anyway. So many things are brought up and receive tons of support every year...things that are incredibly easy to implement (more filters), and OOTP does nothing about it.

I'm convinced they don't even read these.

This is a good idea.

Why not? We have an undead commissioner.

That could happen if you sim more than you play out games. Everyone plays differently; I would never see that, as I play out every game and therefore only get through 10-15 seasons max in each game.

This is exactly why there should be an option.

It's no worse than having a 129-year-old attend his Hall of Fame induction and make a speech.

Just a personal note - I'm having a difficult time reading post after post about improving the "immersion factor" and getting more realism into the game - yet wanting to remove death because it's "too" realistic.

I think the "death formula" should not only be fixed but expanded to every "character" in the game. I could even accept a news story each year with a list of "people we lost" with a link to their career stats. I also agree that teams should be bought and sold as well as owners passing.

My 2 cents.

Anyone who doesn't want to be immortal doesn't know the meaning of immersion.

As Orcin pointed out 6 owners in 18 months is a little severe.

I hate seeing 100 yr old players. That needs to change as well as the owner mortality rate.
