I wanna start in 1989 but when I do theres no draft the players are just added to my team. Is there a way to have a draft?

At league setup, there's an option to have players enter the game at 17 via the draft. Just make sure that option is enabled.

If it's a redraft of all the starting players you want, it's the "Use Initial Draft" option.

I hope you guys can help me.
I'm looking at six team league with my friends, and I noticed that NHL seasons from 1974-1975 to 1991-1992 are all 80 games, which works better with six teams, as everyone plays sixteen games against everyone else.

A few questions.

1) We're looking at doing an auction style draft, which will be done offline, but it means we don't care to much for the financials. This is hopefully so that the values of most of the players relative to each other will be more accurate. We are going to limit drafting to one or the other conference, as six teams drafting from eighteen vs nine will affect these values.

2) Pete Mahovlich played 80 games, while Guy Lafleur only played 70.
Lafleur would be restricted to the actual number of games played, right?

3) It has been mentioned that we might have upwards of twelve owners, still sorting things out, but scheduling twelve people is more complicated than six, so six drafting from one conference and six from the other can be done independently.
either way, I'm hoping that the players can end up on the correct teams before we are playing in this historical/custom league. I think you can draft this way, correct?

4) What I want to know is for the next season, would we have to use the 1975-1976 season? Since there are 18 teams of 80 games, to choose from, I was wondering if it would be possible to somehow keep the standings format, and 'bare bones' of the league, but after randomly determining the season database, have the league just 'hop' to that next one. After all, we're using the database, not keeping the players from year to year.

Since all contracts are one year deals, keeping players won't happen. This allows the auction to occur every year. Plus, 'tanking' to get a higher draft pick doesn't mean anything. Not sure how possible this stuff will be, it's a different concept I know, just want to understand how feasible it would be with this system.

What do you guys think?

Just to clarify, are you talking about controlling 6 teams in the regular 1974-75 NHL, or setting up a six-team custom league using historical players? The latter isn't possible right now, you're limited to the actual historical league structure - you can't vary the number of teams or divisions, rules on contract length, annual changes, etc..

There's no restriction on the number of games players can play in a season, relative to their real life totals or anything else.

It's not possible to have two independent drafts for separate parts of a league.
