Closer usage/innings

I'm trying to emulate baseball from the mid/late 1970's when closers routinely threw a lot of innings and almost always led the bullpen in innings pitched. However, I can't seem to get the settings correct to make that happen in my OOTP league; it seems like there's a setup guy on every team that registers many more innings than the closers (even if he stinks) on the computer-run teams.

Has anyone been able to replicate 1970's bullpen usage? Thanks!

Try a five man bullpen with stamina set to normal, use of relievers set to normal and use of closers set to rarely.

In league setup/strategy, set use of relievers to "rarely" or "very rarely" and use of closers to "often" or "very often". You want to cut the AI's use of middle/long relievers and increase usage of the closer and setup/closer. by doing the above with 1970s settings, typically most relief innings will go to the to the guys the AI slots in as (a) closer, (b) setup/closer, and (c) middle reliever/use more often.

Also, note that the AI bullpen usage changes late in the decade. Prior to 1977 iirc, the AI will give the closer a secondary role of middle reliever, which will get him into more games. After 1977 the AI limits the closer's role to closer/8th+.

Thanks for the feedback! I tried both methods and this one worked best for my current setup. Apparently OOTP has a very strict definition for "closer" and when you set use closers to "rarely", it makes your best RP a "stopper" which gets him into many more games!

Anyway, thanks so much for the help.
