Post Fictional League creation(Scott Vibert)

ScottVib’s Guide to Creating a Fictional League
Last Updated: April 7, 2002

This is the first draft of a guide of how create a fictional league. I will attempt to make this as flexible as possible for you to create your league as you see fit.

1. Start OOTP4.

2. Click on File and Select Create New League.

3. Select your league alignment, Remember you must have 2 leagues for OOTP to create playoffs. It is also highly advisable to have the same number of divisions in each league, otherwise your playoffs will not lineup correctly. The following Table shows the playoffs you’ll get for each number of divisions.

code:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Divisions Teams in Playoffs Playoff Structure1 1 in each league (2) World Series (Best of 7)2 2 in each league (4) LCS (Best of 7); World Series3 4 in each league (8) Divisional Series (Best of 5); LCS; World Series

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Select the type of players (default – gives you the fictionalize 2002 players that came with the game, fictional – generates all new players, none – leaves all teams blank). Select the records set that you want (default – the records that came with the game, blank – blank record books). Select the starting year and the league name.

5. The game will generate the players you selected and generate coaches for you. It will then notify you that you must create a schedule and ask you to click OK. When you do this you’ll be taken to the League Standings screen.

6. Click on League and Select League Setup.

7. You know can see all of the options you can select for your league. Set everything that you want it to be set… but don’t leave this screen yet. (Note – If you are using a salary cap you may want to wait until after the initial draft to set the cap, as the salary cap is not used for the Initial Draft)

8. Click on the Edit Schedule you’ll be taken the Schedule Editor.

9. Choose your starting day and the day that the year starts on.

10. Click the Generate Schedule button and choose the length of your season. The game will generate a schedule that includes only intra-league play.

11. Click on League and select News Section. Then click Select Section and choose League Standings. Do a text or html export for the standings.

12. Click on Team and select the first team. Click on the Team’s City name and Select Setup.

13. Using the Standings export as a guide, Change the Team Name and Nickname to whatever you’d like it to be. Repeat this process for each team. This will help you to get the alignment that you want and the cities you want for each team. During this time if you are going to control any team from the start you should select Human Controlled (by clicking on the ‘Controlled By:’ button)

14. If you are happy with the initially generated schedule you can skip this instruction. If not then click on League and Select League Setup, then Click on Edit Schedule, you are back at the Schedule Editor. This is your chance to fix the initially generated schedule to your liking… if you’d prefer to hand schedule the games you can do this at this time… its advisable to have planned this out already and have it written down prior to entering your schedule. (Warning this can be a long process) If you are using a pre-created schedule you should leave the game and copy the schedule.dat file into your league. Then re-enter the game, go back to the Schedule Editor screen and delete the All Star Game, then you can re-add the All Star game by simply typing the date in the lower-right hand corner.

15. Click on League and Select Coaches/Scouts. From here you will go through the Coaches/Scouts signing process. If you control a team, then you will go through the bidding process, if you control no teams then you can select finish day to advance one day or finish all days to go through the entire process.

16. After the Coaches Signing Period ends you are told to continue with the Initial Draft, click OK in the popup then click League and Select Initial Draft.

17. You will be taken to the Fantasy Draft Screen, Here you can select the draft order and the type of draft you will use. A Serpentine draft goes from 1-30,30-1,1-30,30-1; a Straight draft just goes from 1-30. You can also select the number of rounds of the draft and you can select the order for the draft by selecting either custom draft order, or random draft order.

18. Click on Continue Draft, you are taken to the draft available players screen. If you are controlling a team you can select: Autodraft until Human Team and the computer will select its players quickly and pause at your selection. If you’d prefer to proceed slower, you can simply click on computer pick until it’s your turn. If you are not controlling any teams then you can select computer finish draft and the computer will draft the remaining players.

19. You will be prompted if you want to fill the minor leagues with fictional players… Make your selection. You will be taken back to the Draft Screen. You are now ready to begin the season. If you are controlling a team then you’ll want to set your roster and linueps, if not the computer will do that and you’re ready to go.

I hope this rough draft helps some people. Have fun!!!!!!!
