So an 11-game win streak across the end of April, beginning of May was followed later in the month by a 9-game skid. We just broke another 5-game losing streak and sit at 29-35 overall. 8th in runs scored, 9th in runs allowed, 1 game above Pythag.

22 K game from Lefty Grove gave the Steelport Saints 8k in points, so naturally instead of being responsible and improving my awful pitching, I went for 8 packs.

Pulled 93 Len Barker, 96 Craig Biggio, and 2019 All-Star Trout (100). Not bad for 8 packs. Barker and Biggio will play, while Trout will be sold as he is off limits to the OL-member Saints.

I am salivating at some of the upgrades I can make, the one BIG upgrade I could make, or the 60+ packs of irresponsibility.

I find it hilarious that A-Rod goes for about the same price as the 80 OVR Michael Young card.

Or at least I would find it hilarious if these weren't the only 2 cards I'm missing in a set that allows you to complete it with only 1 missing...

Regarding the AH, I really hope they make it possible to remove stats from purchased cards. Even though I like to see them initially, I want them gone and I know several of you won't keep them and then have to deal with what you are right now. Anyone know if the developers are even considering this?
I agree with your 2nd paragraph wholeheartedly. One could make a case that some of us should just deal with it and use cards that come previously owned. It's not like they perform any differently. In the grand scheme of things, it's really just a cosmetic annoyance. But, I find that it bothers me significantly enough to want to re-sell them. So I'm using the AH less and less as my team gets better and better cards, because pricier cards get harder and harder to flip. I'm not sure how hard it would be to have an 'erase card' function, but I do think it would have to be optional because some OOTP'ers most likely want to keep the stats and the positional training that is tied to the defensive stats/games played at certain positions. I haven't heard Markus acknowledge this as an issue at all, so I doubt there are any plans to change this soon. I assume that those of us complaining about this are in a relatively small minority.

As for your first paragraph, you're right. After the pack-apocalypse and completing some collection missions, my current roster bears little resemblance to that from, say, 10 weeks ago. I count only 7 players that remain from the 2032 championship team (CC, Eck, Nomar, Boudreau, Pesky, Gwynn, and Maddox). If I would've found stat-free copies of Appling and Keeler, it would be even fewer than that. LIVE Mike Trout couldn't even make the team this week. lol

Here's what we're working with as of this season (sorry if the pic is kind of small, I think you can click it to make it larger):

Main team: The owner of the team had a realization that couldn't call his team the Topeka Bombers (defaulted to Bombers) when his team consistently were 15th in the conference in HRs and are now rebranded as the Defenders who consistently lead the league in ZR, Def Eff and errors. A nice addition was made when Lou Boudreau was added off the AH at 8k below his last 7 and he has slotted in nicely into 2b which should be ever better defense at that position than Jim Gilliam who has since moved to 3B. Unfortunately, with the shifting of infielders and players learning their positions, our pitchers are suffering some bad luck through BABIP because of it. We had started out 21-4 before I made those changes and are now 41-37, but a -7 Pythag record so we really are suffering some bad luck. Still lead the division though.

I also had 21k points I was contemplating on who to spend it on, and discord convinced me to open 21 packs. First pack, I pulled a 95 Cal Ripkin Jr. Second pack I pulled a Future Eloy Jiminez. So I'm looking to sell them to make some upgrades for the team with those points once they sell.

KC Theme Team: Since I'm looking at making the switch to OL, I've made a slight change to the team. The owner again has gone through some rebranding and the team is now the Missouri Legends. The idea was to add in players from the St. Louis Cardinals in addition to the Kansas City teams (Royals, Athletics, Monarchs) and KC area players. The pool of players simply limited me too much and if I wanted to move away from live players for the team, something had to be done. This seemed reasonable since I'm originally from Missouri. They are currently 38-38 and in 4th.

Pack Only Team: The owner has not made any rebranding; they are still the Kansas Rangers and the RNG worked in our favor. They had enough for 1 pack, and they packed none other than Live Vlad Jr. They are currently 38-38.

Raccoons do this cute thing where they pretend they are an above-.500 team (43-37) and remain vaguely near the wild card (3 1/2 GB), only to wait for the first bowl of candies to become unattended and then raid that instead while casually losing 11 in a row… maybe today!

The Rebels pretend nothing at all. Four under .500 and wholly crummy.

Accountants keep setting themselves up for an LDS defeat; 52-28 and 11 ahead of the pack.

Paragon City Heroes finished the month at 53-39, leading the division by 7, despite going 4-6 in the last 10. Scherzer is leading the rotation at 12-2 with a 2.80 era. Madlock is still driving runs in but Puckett was the star of June picking up player of the week and batter of the month honours. Dykstra is having a down year with the bat, by far the worst OPS+ in the lineup at 76

Bad News Bulldogs are still having a battle in their division, 46-36 leading by 1 1/12 games, but it wasn't straightforward with a couple of 3 game losing streaks and ending the month with an 8 game win streak. the bullpen is really struggling so I've bought the 96 rated All Star Aroldis Chapman.

Neuman Furshlugginers leapfrogged into 2nd place in the division at 37-43 after a 15-12 month, every team is within 3 games of the lead, could be an interesting (if low quality) title race

Frogs are continuing to do about the same:

Day 1: 20-7
Day 2: 20-7
Day 3: 19-7

Trying to figure out why the team underperformed so badly today...

38-43 here, a mere 19 games back in our division, but I'm just happy to playing above .450.

Not much else to say, really. Heilmann is slashing .305/.360/.435. Trout has slugged 16 homers but only has a BA of .229 and an OBP of .331 (oh, I play in a low homer park, btw, so I can focus on high stuff pitchers to try to compensate for my awful defense - that being said, we've struck out the least hitters so far...). Typical OOTP Trout.

We're third in the conference for base-running, so that's something, I guess...

Today is one of those days where no matter what file I open in the office, I only find stupid **** inside, some even fudged up by me.

I just want to go home and buy FIFTY packs and tear them ALL ... just to make the pain go away.

I wonder what the record is for most packs opened without a single gold card...

Thanks for the roster pic! You have a good team there. It's too bad you couldn't keep Keeler and Appling - they have both consistently performed well for me even in this whale heavy league.

You know, I've always felt like you seem to get more from your team than should be possible. I remember when you were in my league and your team did so well (coming oh so close to winning it all) with a roster that looked quite a bit weaker than others with similar records. And it wasn't just because you were beating up on weaker teams, you were also beating some really strong teams. So I can only conclude you must be using some kind of magic. After all, just look at some of those recent pack pulls you've had.

The Raccoons are 45-36 .556 which puts us on pace for 90 wins which was my season goal. The problem is, we still can't beat those whales much. We went 4-9 against them in June which was a slight improvement over April-May.

Lou Boudreau had a 28 game hitting streak and is hitting .318 which is quite the surprise, to say the least. Sutton is having a good year as is Schilling again, while the other 3 SPs are at least not sucking like last year.

We're hitting a bit better at home than on the road and our pitchers are continuing to do much better (far fewer blowouts this year) so I'm going to stick with a neutral park for the foreseeable future. Oddly, our pitchers are doing a fair bit better on the road than at home. For example, our QS% on the road is .711 while at home it's .535. Looking at the park factors of our opponents so far, it looks like the parks are more favorable for hitters than pitchers.

P425 Update

After Huntley put together a 21-7 May and raced to a 10-3 start in June, seemingly putting the NC West in play, the bottom fell out--the Austin Express asserted its dominance with a 3-game sweep in the Red Raiders' own backyard, which kicked off a dreadful 4-9 ending to the month for Huntley, leaving the Red Raiders 12 games back and firmly in the Wild Card discussion. Austin also extended its lead in the race for the #1 seed to 12 games, as the Guelph Diamond Cats had a June to forget, going 9-16. Austin's monthly records are 1-0, 21-5, 21-7, and 22-5, so they are clearly the class of the NC. Tip of the hat to Nero!

The story was very similar in the AC, as the Chicago Cubbies put together an 18-8 June to take a 6-game lead in the AC West over the 6-time Perfect League champion Dyersville Ghosts and a 10-game lead over the Subway Jareds in the race for the #1 AC seed.

Standings follow...

Are packs juiced right now? All I hear is everybody having nice pulls lately.

Purely anecdotal and in no-way scientific evidence seems to indicate that packs are +EV and I should be using my points on them.

Will be interesting to hear what Westheim pulls with 50 packs.

I highly doubt packs have been boosted, but I do believe that missions have created a LOT more demand for a lot of different cards that have resulted in a nice increase to pack EV. I don't know if it is enough to make it positive, but there has never been a better time than now to open packs, and tomorrow may be even better.

I just can't waste the points chasing something that I know isn't going to come. I've opened one diamond since the start of PT20 with the challenge mode packs and it was a live keston hiura that didn't even show up as a diamond because my image cache wasn't refreshed lol.

I went thru over 50 packs with the points I built up on 19 and got just one live kris bryant diamond and a few bad golds. It's awful.

Well. Tore 75 packs ($50), and beneath here are all the cards worth mentioning, which excludes all bronzes, as well as live irons and silvers, except where they would have been the last card to complete a mission. Cards with * are ones I already had before.

(51) – SP Schoolboy Rowe – 1940 Unsung Hero *
(53) – LF Delmon Young – 2013 Unsung Hero
(54) – C Eddie Perez – 1999 Unsung Hero *
(57) – SS Edgar Renteria – 1997 Unsung Hero
(57) – RF Mark Whiten – 1993 Unsung Hero *
(58) – LF Dave Roberts – 2004 Unsung Hero

(70) – 1B Kent Hrbek – 1982 All Star
(73) – CL Larry Sherry – 1959 Unsung Hero
(74) – 3B Craig Grebeck – 1991 Unsung Hero
(74) – 1B Randy Milligan – 1989 Rookie Sensation
(75) – RF Bill Nicholson – 1943 All Star
(76) – LF Melky Cabrera – 2012 All Star
(76) – CF Stan Spence – 1944 All Star

(80) – RP Giovanni Gallegos – Live
(83) – 2B Jim Gilliam – 1956 All Star
(84) – SP Charles Nagy – 1996 Hardware Heroes
(85) – 3B Don Hoak – 1957 All Star
(86) – SS Trea Turner – Live
(88) – SP Claude Passeau – 1943 All Star
(89) – SP Stephen Strasburg – Live
(89) – SS Alan Trammell – 1987 All Star

(90) – SP Clayton Kershaw – Live
(91) – CL Liam Hendriks – Live
(91) – CL Liam Hendriks – Live *
(98) – SP Chris Sale – Live

(100) – SP Jacob deGrom – Live *
(100) – SS Fernando Tatis jr. – Live

+++

No missions were accidentally completed or can be made with little effort now, either.

The Tatis and a Hendriks stay with me. Will try training Tatis at second base. Will certainly be a disaster.

Since SP’s really aren’t what I need and I will never complete the Dodgers and Red Sox live missions, the Kershaw and Sale go up on the market just like the double Hendriks and deGrom. Those are of course fresh pulls, so they have no stats, if you are that sorta folk. They will have insta-buy prices ending in 15, like, y’know, Daniel Hall’s number.
