2000 NJ Devils Random Debut Fun

Year 2000 and season 1 using the new random debut feature in FHM5

The NJ Devils

The Inaugural Draft
The Edmonton Oilers selected #1 and took 26 yr old Jean Beliveau. D Potvin went #2 to the Islanders, Anze Kopitar went #3 to the Wild. That left us with pick #4. After much thought, the Devils select......21 yr old Eric Lindros. 30 year old Gordie Howe was available, but ultimately youth won out in this choice. Lindros will be built around for the next few seasons.

Pick #2 for the Devils: 28 year old G Harry Lumley

Other notables picked in the inaugural draft:
J Toews : Lightning
P Coffey: Flames
Messier: Bruins
Roenick: Thrashers
Hellebucyck: Blackhawks

I am missing quite a few to post, but want to leave a few surprises.

Trade Deadline News

The NJ Devils acquire RW Mark McNeill from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a 2011 3rd pick and Marthieu Darche.

This should help bolster the 1st line offense pairing McNeill with Lindros and Alain Cote.

Other News

The most interesting trade to occur was Buffalo shipped Auston Matthews and 47 year old J Jagr to the Blue Jackets for Ryan McDonagh, age 19, and Ryan Kesler, age 37

A long night in Boston ended in heart break for the visiting Devils. Randy Burridge scored the game's clinching goal to put the Bruins up 1 game to 0 in the series with a final score of 4-3. 19,167 fans packed the arena in a very even match up that had the Devils go out in front 2-0. With the Devils leading late in the 3rd period, Burridge scored to tie the game. The first OT went scoreless as both teams seemed to be fatigued on the ice. Bruins On Verge of Sweep

Devils Fall at Home and Down 3-0 in Series

Round 2, Game 3

Boston @ New Jersey

Mark Messier sparked the Bruins with 1 goal, and 2 assists in the 3-1 victory over New Jersey. Messier has been fairly quiet to this point, and it was only a matter of time before he came to life. Once again, scoring was a problem for the Devils. Alain Cote scored the only Devils goal.

One of the unsung heroes for the Bruins has been backup goalie Daren Machesney. Machesney was signed in April when starting goalie Pelle Lindbergh went down with an injury. Machesney has only allowed 2 total goals in the last 2 games.

The Bruins and Devils will play game 4 in East Rutherford, and the Devils need a win to stay alive.
