Would you handle your pitching staff this way?

Saw this article and was wondering if any of you would do this or have implementing something similar to this

I've had some success with a similar strategy, especially when I've got 2-3 good starters and a couple fringy guys. If the fringy guys can get me 4-5 decent innings, sometimes you can take advantage of a platoon heavy line up by having a long guy of the opposite hand.

Depending on the depth of your bullpen, it may be wise to not have the guys who need more help going back-to-back in your rotation.

Plus you would think they would extend the career of the pitcher

Sure, especially where there are low stamina starting capable pitchers available. Think of it; 6 innings with 4 hits and 2 walks is 24 batters. It makes a lot of sense. If a pitcher is dealing, 7 innings with any combo of walks and hits adding up to 3 is still only 24 batters.

if i have a super-star laden bullpen, i defnitely want to make use of them.

that is when i use pitch counts. if you have 5-6 relievers that will be 2.00-3.00 era, getting them at least 60+ innings each is in your team's best interest, unless you have 5 cy young candidates in your starting rotation.

when i did a inaugural draft i had a pimp bullpen and it was awesome. made me rethink things a bit. just one more configuration that works well - fit the strategy to what your team does best.

I am very much old school. I let my pitcher go as deep as possible but yet keep an eye on pitch count for I have a pretty good idea when my pitchers get tired and bring in relievers at that time. Rarely outside of rain delays will my pitcher go less than 6 or 7 innings and IF they having a good game I will go on one batter at a time bases. .... Sorry Sparky Anderson (caption hook) I don't pull the trigger till late in game.

The one problem with this strategy is you run out of relievers quickly. If you continue to use this strategy daily, some days you will have no rested relievers.
