Question / Illegal Number of Players / Playoff Rosters

Hey folks,

I'm starting up an OOTP 16 league for the first time. I tend to be a bit of a planner, and I like to run my sims for several years to make sure they work OK before actually starting to play.

So, in this game of mine, in year 2 I have been running into the dreaded "illegal number of players on the roster" error without fail at the start of the playoffs. I've narrowed it down to a problem where teams who aren't in the playoffs and don't have a playoff roster need to get down to 25 players on the active roster, and the AI won't do it for them. So if they have 35/40 on the active roster, I get the error until I move players off the active roster down to 25. If I do that OR if I disable playoff rosters, I can proceed.

The good news is, because this is just part of my "test run," my game itself isn't in any danger. I just want to figure this out before I start playing for good. As an FYI, I am using a fictional league setup, not the MLB setup.

Just curious, has anyone else run into this issue? I haven't been very "in the loop" on things OOTP recently...

Every once in a while I run into that. Usually it happens when their is a tie breaker game. All I ever do though is click ok and when I try to advance the day again it works.

Yeah no such luck for me. When I get it, I am stuck until I modify the rosters manually.

So, rather than have this disclaimer in your sig, the association label can't be removed or replaced? Or are they holding out hope, in the event the real world offers parole? Just curious.

On the league note, it's invariably something in the mix between league setup and the playoff structure. Funky thing that seems to crop up in an unusual configuration or often an import. IIRC, this was freshly created, but even then you had a couple of setup issues, didn't you? Did you go ahead and upload the league file for a look?

This was a brand new OOTP 16 league.

It's definitely not a standard configuration, but it's not super out there either. The majors have two subleagues with two divisions of six teams each. So 24 teams total.

And it's definitely the major league playoff rosters that are throwing errors.

Edit: So, I disabled playoff rosters for the major league, and simmed 10 years. No problems. I guess I just have to decide if playoff rosters are important to me. (BTW, since I'm in touch with Markus, I did send him my league files.
