How to win in the playoff

I have been at first places in the division and got into the playoff twice, however, I never win the division championship.
I am wondering is there any tips helping me won the division championship or even the WS

Two tries isn't enough to establish a trend. Win the division and lose the first round of the playoffs 15 or 20 times without a win and then maybe there's some factor that could be identified.

i make all my playoffs 7 game series and WS 9 game series.
I think that helps clearly establish the best team and prove no flukes

if there was a way to include DH within the playoff series, i would sometimes to that.
I like the idea of the best team being the deepest team of talent.

If that's true, you shouldn't use the DH. It forces teams to use all their bench players, or more of them anyway.

Back to the OP, if you are using an MLB setup, changing the DS to 7 games might indeed help. Also, you can shorten your starting rotation and use your best 3 or 4 starters. Then you can use the 5th guy as a long reliever or just swap for an extra sub/pinch hitter.

Finally, at least in v.21 teams aggressively dump their relievers/closers, so you can upgrade your bullpen at the deadline.

If DH rule is on, the DH is available in any playoff series.

I'm wondering if he's referring to doubleheaders and not the designated hitter...

You can try making the higher seed play all home games in the divisional round (just for that round). Makes for more exciting playoffs (to me) in the sense that you'll see more matchups of teams with 99+ wins in the LCS and WS, giving a series a higher sense of epicness. You still maintain a chance of upsets in the DR though, but now when a "great" team loses while playing all home games, the feeling that "they deserved to get knocked out / the other guys really earned it" is stronger than anything else.

This. You can always try to trade a few good players to the Twins, pretty sure they're unable to beat the Yanks in the playoffs

Pitching staff-make sure you have 3 very good starters and an excellent closer. The 4th/5th starters won't get many starts relative to the other 3.
Bench strength is not that important since you will have short series with days off so fatigue won't be a factor. Try to get the best starters you can and a couple star players.

Some of the suggestions are effective only if daxing has the the best team.

The characteristics of the strongest playoff team are the same as those of the strongest regular season team. (A team configured as a playoff team may not make the playoffs!)

Regardless of creating home team advantage for better teams, byes for the best teams, or any other shennanigans, the best way to have the best team win more often is to get rid of all the pretenders who have already been proven not to be the best.

Daxing, I suppose all these responses have you totally confused. OK, seriously now, I have to tell you that OOTP is programmed so that the Yankees never win.

Keep playing and you'll eventually win. Playoffs can seem random and luck-based, and compared to the regular season they probably are. Therefore you just need to increase your number of occurrences.

As far as practical things you can do...

Obviously a 5-man rotation becomes a 4-man rotation in the playoffs. But what works for me is to not necessarily drop my worst SP. But to turn one of my better SPs into a Stopper in the playoffs.

It could be my 2nd or 3rd best SP overall, depends on the type. Generally I want a guy with 3 strong pitches as opposed to 5 average pitches. This way he gets a better Stuff boost in the bullpen. This guy will provide a lot of value over multiple games and could provide that extra boost to win a title.

If the opposition has a lefty heavy lineup and doesn't platoon, try to have a lefty starter even if he's not one of your four best. If he's close in overall quality to a righty he's probably better against such opposition.
