FHM9 Way Too Easy

I try everything to make it harder. Limit myself to 1 trade, no free agents, no waiver pick ups, trades need to make perfect sense for both teams. Trade difficulty on much much harder, hidden trade factors on extreme. I'll even try and force myself to only make trades through the shop player feature. I traded away the entirety of the 2015-16 Oilers using shop player feature, except McDavid, for scraps and still won a cup first year. I will win every cup and win 60+ games a year every single time. Am I just supposed to use bad tactics and have McDavid score an incredibly unrealistic 70 points a year in his prime? I think the only way I could have a losing season is if I tried to lose. If anyone has any suggestions that don't involve me completely hijacking the narrative of the game and just deciding when my team is gonna be good I am so open to them. I want to be challenged, I love this game and the amount of control it gives you but it is way too easy. Edit-I also don't trade any of my draft picks.
