Back up back up back up
Hi Y'all
Been seeing this about players losing a whole ton of time (which goes with attachments to players, stats, leagues etc...) Well maybe I can vent so y'all dont suffer... back in OOTP13 I lost a game that had been from 1903-2034 that I played solo... WHY... cause I wasnt resolute and did my thing (as an ex-it guy I was too embarrassed to post)... Well here is what I do now... now granted I run 2 online leagues and a half, but also I am in leagues (5) (not a biggy, but my routine has that commishs back)... and a few solo projects which I have less and less time for... First off, no matter how long you SIM for (the longer the bigger your exposure.. ) the first thing you do, when your 'finish day is complete' is to 'Save' Save your game... if it does f..k up after that, just kill the process and go back to that game... Second, a lot of you are like me... make Cards, Make Uniforms, etc... Well lose a HD and lose your stuff.... I use to use SyncToy but now I use FreeFileSync and set up a backup to a remote drive of 'everything' under my Out of the Park Baseball folder... only makes sense, you spend 40 bucks, for a world class product, might as well ensure all your time and energy is backed up in a safe place... I sleep great, mabe my 34 GMs dont but I do... Ok... are there little things I can do to help... well I am a PC guy... but 'folder, copy, management' is a key.. takes time, but so does playing 35 seasons... just be smart... copy what you need to... make sure its safe, hell its your time and time is money... Finally in today's and age... backing up your date is critical... heck I have a 2 TB SSD drive along with a 500 GB SSD System drive.. (the hell with the system drive... I can replace the software etc if it craps... but my data drive gets backed up nighty (hell might as well make the machine work as I spent too much on it according to my wife).. it gets backed up to a complete external 2 TB hard drive... Now the next machine I order will have a Raid 0 SSD Data drive... Anywho... just trying to help with all the threads about 'data and life' ruined... Since my one crash (The Great Crash of 2013) I have slept sound and enjoyed the best baseball game ever... |

I've restarted my historical league more times than I want to admit due to crashes while in game that erase everything. I wish I could understand any of what you wrote about back ups. I can't even find the help tab that OOTP says will explain backing up the game. My computer skills peaked during DOS days.

Remember, if the game crashes and you lose anything, do not re-load immediately.
go into the saved game folder and make copy of auto-save, root and any other redundancy -- with labels. There are upto 3 folder this year with the files that essentially are your league. you can try each before restoring a backup and potentially lose less 'time.' also, much faster than a full restore. in genearl you'll be able to tell from the modified time stamp of the file if it is worthwhile to try. (not created time stamp, but last modified time stamp. may need to add that colum to see in file explorer.) if you load up and it auto-saves before you move/copy those files, you lose that potential way to restore it.
