When does a CEI/Retirement come off the books

Miguel Cabrera broke his leg late in 2019 and retired during the offseason. He's still on my payroll and sitting on the Injured List as of Opening Day 2020, and he's signed through something like 2025. Will I ever get relief from that contract and if so, when?

i think when it happens you have a choice of buying it out? could be wrong. But, contracts are guaranteed in the MLB. it comes off the books at the end of the contract just as if he's still on your team.

They did the same thing for the Rangers and Prince Fielder. I know in last year's game he was on the payroll for years. I'm sure it's the same as this year, but I haven't looked at the roster for the Rangers.

Yeah IRL he's on the books through 2020 so I'd expect to see him there this year and next.

In-game, players with a CEI will usually eventually retire and come off the books. Can be as early as the first off-season after the injury, but sometimes might only be a year or so later.
