Not a fan of team abbreviation's(scoreboard)

I have larger leagues and probably have many teams with the same abbreviation. Carolina Monarchs and California Mariners are probably both CAM. I have Los Angeles Stars and Los Angeles Sharks are probably both LAS.

Now with OOTP19 the team abbreviation is used instead of the city(scoreboard not out of town scores) . I guess they are trying to save space but having the cities listed on the scoreboard(I noticed it is on the out of town scores) was greatly appreciated in the past games.

Looks like I will need to change the abbreviation to about 880 teams so I can ID them to play games.

Do you have such a short memory that you can not remember which team is which when you start to play a game out? After all the team name is also shown on the substitution buttons. Not sure I understand your concern.

Are you talking about the scoreboard when playing games out, or when real time simming? Like Marcus, I'm having a difficult time understanding your objection to the abbreviations.

Yeah Sorry -I do have memory problems.

I had a catscan last Friday and going for a EEG this week.

When I go to play a game in classic mode the teams name is spelled out six times on the screen but when I go to select the game( too begin with) its abbreviated.

When you start the slim all the games have abbreviations and the team city isn't spelled out like the last versions plus there is plenty of empty space on the screen so I don't see the need for abbreviations.

I could use PIT for Pittsburgh Pirates but I also have Pittsburgh Phantoms and Pittsburgh Pipers.

I have both New York Rangers and New York Raiders so NYR won't work.

I could use DEL for Detroit Lions but I also have Delaware Crusaders.

Ah, you mean the RTS screen. Yes, that will be improved in a future version, right now this shows a bit too much empty space.

My suggestion: come up with unique three-letter abbreviations for all your teams, especially in cases of the city name portion being the same.

For example, you could do this for the clubs you mentioned:

CAR = Carolina Monarchs
CAL = California Mariners
LAS = Los Angeles Sharks
LAR = Los Angeles Stars
PIT = Pittsburgh Pirates
PGH = Pittsburgh Phantoms
PTP = Pittsburgh Pipers (not the greatest choice for abbreviation, but at least it's not a repeat)
NYN = New York Rangers
NYR = New York Raiders
DET = Detroit Lions
DEL = Delaware Crusaders

Once you've used the unique identifiers for awhile, you'll be used to them.

First rule of large universes: NEVER, ever, use duplicate team abbreviations. Get creative if needed, but keep 'em sorted!

No offense but it makes no sense to use the same abbreviation for 2 teams in the same league. Why would the White Sox and Cubs both use CHI or the Yankees & Mets both use NY.
In my All Chicago League (now defunct) i had the Blackhawks CHB. White Sox CWS. Cubs CHC, Bulls, CHI, Fire CHF, Hitmen, CHM, Sting CHS, Bandits, CBA, Bears, BEA, Thunderbolts, CHT, Sky, SKY & Whales, CHW.
Even in my eBL vs MLB league i have two Atlanta teams, one on Endor and then one on Earth. Braves of MLB are still ATL. Brave of Endor are ATB. For my IBL league I use many of teh same cities and put IBL in parenthesis behind the name.
Historical names for White Sox is CHA for American League and Cubs CHN National League.

Also you are limited to using just 2-3 characters for abbreviations. It seems to be unlimited but i gave up after 9. Scoreboard will cut off after 3 to my knowledge.

Like I mentioned before I have memory problems and sometimes I can't remember what I did 5 minutes ago.

When I am preparing leagues I usually try to get in done in a hurry because if I stopped to check on something I will never get finished. Other things like teams cities(California,Texas,Massachusetts,Minnesota) I can look up later. I use state names for alot of teams .

Repetitive usage should help. Failing that, print out a list if need be.

A limitation, certainly, but then, most abbreviations are three letters.

I once created a hundreds of unique abbreviations-long list for minor league clubs which had also did not overlap any of the ML club abbreviations used by Retrosheet. I think I had something like 400 different abbreviations...

I think you can fit as many as 7 letters with no blank space on OOTP19 on the page I am referring.
