Ottawa Senators Starting in 2017-18

Been playing around with the game and finally started a franchise with the club, the Ottawa Senators. I'm a massive Oiler fan, have been my whole life but I live in Ottawa and decided on them. They have been close to the Cup a few times including last season and I'm going to try to get them there this season.

My initial season as GM of the Senators taking over from Pierre Dorion was a decent one in retrospect. I only really made one big move bringing in Alec Martinez from the Kings. MacArthur and a prospect and a 3rd rounder we gave up and that was all.

We finished 41-37-4 and sadly missed the playoffs though they were up in the air close to the end of the season but lost Mark Stone and Erik Karlsson in the last 3 weeks of the year and that killed our hopes. Karlsson was the best player again on the team when he finally came back from his injury to start the season and finished with 60 points in 68 games and finished 2nd on the team in scoring behind Mike Hoffman (27-38-65).

Anderson was below par for sure for the season, didn't play great and Mike Condon was the starter most of the season. Only 2 players scored above 20 goals and JG pageau was the other. Offense was by far the problem and we need to bring in some scoring touch for next season.

2018-19 Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators will start the season with Karlsson injury free which should help loads. We also made some offseason moves. Bobby Ryan is gone, traded for an aging tough guy to clear the 7mil off the books and open up some room. We also signed Evander Kane (3.9 mil for 3 seasons) and Paul Stastny (5.26 mil for 4 seasons) to help get some more puck movement and some more scoring hopefully help bolster a weak scoring forward core.

Alex Burrows is gone to the minors from last season as well. He wasnt a great forward for us but Boucher used him on the top line with Turris and Dzingel. At the end of the season though, he finally had Turris, Hoffman and Stone together which helped loads.

Going into the season, here is the possible lines and roster

GOALTENDING

Starter - Craig Anderson (37) Last Season - 24 games, 8-11-1 2.79 gaa, .897 save percentage

Back Up - Mike Condon (28) Last Season - 62 games, 33-26-3 2.66 gaa
.905 save percentage

Not really sure who Boucher is going with this season. Anderson didn't play well last season at all and Condon did. Condon would appear to be the front runner but my gut is Anderson

DEFENSE

Erik Karlsson (28) Last Season - 68 games, 16 games, 44 assists, 60 points, 38 Pim, plus 1
Mark Borowiecki (29) Last Season - 78 games, 4 goals, 9 assists, 13 points, 147 pim, plus 8
Fred Claesson (25) Last season - 14 games, 0 goals, 2 assists, 2 points, 4 pim, even
Alec Martinez (31) Last Season - 52 games, 8 goals, 16 assists, 24 points, 28 pims, minus 15
Dion Phaneuf (33) Last Season - 82 games, 13 goals, 20 assists, 33 points, 105 pims, plus 16
Chris Wideman (27) Last Season - 75 games, 5 goals, 12 assists, 17 points, 25 pims, -3
Cody Ceci (24) Last Season - 79 games, 5 goals. 18 assists, 23 points, 40 pims, -20

Overall, not the greatest unit. Tomas Chabot is waiting in the wings to come up and should be on the team at some point this season.

FORWARDS

Alex Formenton (19) Last Season 79 games, 15 goals. 15 assists, 30 points, 14 pim, -2
Mike Hoffman (28) Last Season - 82 games, 27 goals, 38 assists, 65 points, 30 pim, -10
Evander Kane (27)Last Season - 82 games, 16 goals, 13 assists, 29 points, 94 pims, -11 (with Buffalo)
Zach Smith (30) Last Season - 75 games, 11 goals, 17 assists, 28 points, 63 pim, +2
Derick Brassard (31) Last Season - 64 games, 8 goals, 15 assists, 23 points, 52 pim, -14
Logan Brown (20) Last Season - 73 games, 6 goals, 6 assists, 12 points, 56 pim, -7
Filip Chlapik (21) Last Season - 76 games, 19 goals, 43 assists, 62 points, 78 pim, -18 In Belleville (AHL)
JG Pageau (25) Last Season - 82 games, 21 goals, 36 assists, 57 points, 64 pim, +9
Paul Stastny (32) Last Season - 75 games, 12 goals, 24 points, 36 points, 17 pim, -16 (with St. Louis)
Kyle Turris (29) Last Season - 82 games, 12 goals, 34 assists, 46 points, 46 pim, -6
Ryan Dzingel (26) Last Season - 82 games, 9 goals, 12 assists, 21 points, 36 pim, -10
Tom Pyatt (31) Last Season - 56 games, 9 goals, 11 assists, 20 points, 26 pim, +2
Mark Stone (26) Last Season - 74 games, 18 goals, 19 assists, 37 points, 25 pim, +6
Colin White (21) Last Season - 8 games, 0 goals, 1 assist, 1 point, 4 pim +1

Overall, I think we should score more goals than last season. Karlsson being healthy will help and Mark Stone needs to have a much better season.

Not what we expected...

Well, this past season was an absolute bust. We were doomed from the start and things just fell apart early and often. After about half the season being over, the fire sale started. Brassard, Anderson, Phaneuf all gone. Picked up some draft picks and got a whole lot of cap room. The players that were left, really didnt have a great season. We finished 26-44-12, 4th worst record in hockey.

Karlsson had a decent year and tried to carry the team. He played in 76 games, had 22 goals and 44 assists and finished 2nd on the team in scoring after Mike Hoffman. Hoffman had 29 goals and 38 assists in 82 games.

Craig Anderson was attrocious in the early going and was moved out after we picked up Pickard on waivers. Mike Condon started the most games with 50 but didn't do well at all. He finished with a 3.35 goals against and an.895 save percentage. Picard took over as the starter about 3/4 of the way and finished very well on this team with a 2.42 gaa and a .905 sv pct.

Overall, a terrible season. Looking forward to the draft and praying for that 1st overall pick. Maybe a McDavid-Crosby style player to rescue the franchise

The draft went ok, I drafted forward heavy because I knew that my scorers were going to start declining. Seems so many players in fhm hit the decline around 30, at least for me so I needed a new crop of players to score but after a few seasons I noticed that I wasn't in challenge mode so I'm going to restart. I'll be going a little more in depth, month to month type of dynasty though. Instead of a seasonal recap.
