From the Detroit Tribune...Supporters of Hank Griffin have questioned the verdict of referee Billy Roche giving the win and American Boxing Association title to James J Corbett...Roche scored rounds 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11 and 12 for Corbett and 1, 3, 6, 7, 10 for Griffin with none even though many at ringside remarked that several rounds, including ones for Corbett, were extremely close...There were no knockdowns...Mexican Pete Everett upset the oddsmakers in New York with a 3rd round kayo of Patsy Cardiff the favourite going in...The International Boxing Union has declared that any world champion who successfully defends his title three times will be allowed to keep the IBU championship belt permanently and a new one will be awarded to the man who finally defeats him...

Thumbs up Nice League

Nice League! You have obviously put a lot of work into it. Love the newspaper clippings. How do you do them?

Excerpt from the Toronto Telegram Morning edition...When James Corbett waffled on the terms set by George Chuvalo to meet him for the title Phila. Jack O'Brien jumped on a flyer of the New York-Pennsylvania line to Toronto and happily signed the articles of agreement...Referee John Eckhardt gave O'Brien five rounds, Chuvalo only three and scored rounds 4, 6 and 9 even...Most experts at ringside had O'Brien ahead 8 rounds to 3 going into the 12th...O'Brien took home almost $1,800 as the loser's end of the purse and $500 from the gate receipts...

From the December 1891 issue of Mitt Slingers Magazine...Peter Jackson and Bob Fitzsimmons are both in training camp in Los Angeles preparing for their championship contest next month...Perhaps yielding to pressure from the international sporting press the IBU has mandated that George Chuvalo the NABF champion and James Corbett the ABA champion must meet to decide who will get the next crack at the world championship ....The championship committee however, has added this could be altered if Fitzsimmons emerges the winner against Jackson...Tom Sharkey is angling for a fight with either Phila. Jack O'Brien or newcomer Gus Ruhlin...George Godfrey, after recent wins over Frank Slavin and John L Sullivan, is said to be wondering what he has to do to get a match with one of the top contenders...For his part, Sullivan is complaining in the pages of the Boston Globe that he should be ranked much higher by the IBU considering he has wins over three men currently included in the prestigious Top Ten.
