OOTP 17 feature idea: Historical exhibition game
Update February 3rd: I have decided to implement this feature for OOTP 17, including the ability to play out an entire series.
Hey folks, I am currently thinking about coding a new feature for OOTP 17 which I'd quite like, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort. How about an "Historical Exhibition Game" feature, available directly from the start screen of the game. Essentially, this would open a dialog where you can select any two teams from MLB history to play against each other for an exhibition game. No fuss, no need to create a new league, simply select the teams, play the game, check the box scores, and get back to the start screen. Would you use it? Cheers, Markus

I like this idea too. It would be very appealing for many players who aren't ready right now to commit themselves to the long career. It also would be good for people who just want to sim the game (and write the results of the simulation on the blog).
One thought: maybe it would be better to make it as a series of games? It would be like a mini-World Series. |

Yes yes yes yes......you know why.....this would be a huge step towards the creation of a TOURNAMENT MODE!!!!!! At least something like what you just mentioned would allow for us to manually play tournaments. Please please please add a tournament mode

I love this idea - random matchups of historical teams would be a hoot. Also as David Watts mentioned, doing tournaments like finding the best team one franchise ever had would be fun too.

I think it's a fantastic idea and I would definitely play it.

I'm the sixth and my opinion is just as relevant as any name-caller.

Honestly I can't understand why anybody would vote no for this. If you're going to vote no at least give your argument of why not because this feature will enhance the game

Rich votes no to everything lol. I personally wouldn't use this, but I see value to it.

That is a splendid idea. Would be neat if it could be expanded to a 4 out of 7 World Series play.

Not only is this a great idea for historical leagues, but I think it could be fun for fictional leagues, matching up the best fictional teams in your leagues history or even one step further matching up your best fictional teams against historical teams as well.

The question was, "Would you use it?" not "Would anyone use it?" The people who voted no would not use it. Seems pretty simple to me.

I can understand why people would vote no. (I voted yes btw) The way the question is presented makes it sound like a trade off. Add this feature or fix the trade AI. I'd love to see this feature in the game, but not at the expense of an improved trade AI. Last edited by Bluenoser; 01-29-2016 at 12:38 PM. |

Markus is wondering if it's even worth his time to coded into the game so if enough people say no then it's not going to be worth his time to put it in there

Wow, I haven't even thought of that, but that is a good idea. Just imagine the 1994 Expos and 1994 Yankees or 2003 Red Sox and 2003 Cubs.
