Paramount Baseball League Seeking Owners

The PBL just completed its 25th season and just beginning the off-season.

We use OOTP16...

The PBL features some very interesting aspects that, we feel, separate us from the other online leagues:

The PBL features two leagues of four divisions, each with four teams, using MLB franchises

The playoff format is similar to that of the NFL, so there are plenty of playoff and wildcard possibilities....

The PBL expanded (to get to the 32 team format) adding the Carolina Warhounds and Montreal Expos

The most unique aspect of the PBL is the use of a “player agent” mechanism with which to conduct contract extensions. The player agent’s role is to maintain contract integrity and to make sure all extension offers are deemed acceptable and to protect the in-game AI from being taken advantage of by any GM.

The following teams are available:

Chicago White Sox – 84-78 Record Last Season

The White sox missed the playoffs for the first time in the last 5 seasons, but still have a solid core to work with and could definitely continue to contend. They have a deep rotation with 2 very good starters at the top, along with 24-year old Rich Hebsen who pitched in relief last season, but looks like he could be another great young starter for the club and was the 34th top prospect in the league at the start of last season. The Sox also have a great back end of the bullpen, with a lights out closer in Brady “Flounder” Armstrong. Their lineup is their true strength, and they were 5th in the AL in runs last season, and lead by the AL MVP Jerome Reynolds. Their farm system is lacking a bit, but has one very good potential starter in rookie ball, along with a few decent pitching and hitting prospects.

Colorado Rockies – 53-109 Record Last Season

As their record indicates, the Rockies are in the midst of a rebuild, but have a growing farm system with four potentially great starting pitchers in Dave Badenho (AAA), Orlando “Booger” Dominguez (A), Salvador “Coach” Nunez (S A), and Ron “Prowler” Riviela (R). They do lack any potential impact bats in the system, though, and have very little financial flexibility until next season when their two most expensive players will be free agents, which will clear up around 30M of their 77M budget. The Rockies are perfect for someone looking to take on the challenge of building up a team from the ground floor.

Oakland Athletics – 78-84 Record Last Season

Just looking at their record, you wouldn’t be able to tell the A’s had a very successful season, winning the AL West division and making it to the ALCS. They have the foundation for a good lineup with two very good young outfielders in Greg Larmour and Bryant Chaney. They are also in good financial shape, with around 20M free to spend on free agents this offseason. Their rotation is average, as is their farm system, but they do have two very good starters getting close to the majors down in AA. Even with their flaws, in this division and with some money available to further improve the team, the A’s could definitely contend again in the weak AL West.

San Diego Padres – 102-60 Record Last Season

If you’re looking at taking over a top of the line contender right away, look no further. The Padres have been built up to be a powerhouse and have just opened up because their former GM wants a new challenge and has taken over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Padres come with a big budget of 132M, have had five consecutive 100-win seasons, and have won 2 of the last 5 World Series. You get to inherit the rotation that had the best ERA with no one older than 30 in it, a bullpen that had the best ERA, along with a solid offense that was also the best defense in the league. Their farm system is doing pretty good for a team that has won this much, with a lot of solid players coming up, especially in single A, but no players who are projected to be superstars.

Tampa Bay Rays -103-59 Record Last Season

Once a dominant franchise that went to the playoffs 12 times out of 13 seasons, they had fallen in recent years, but had an amazing season last year and are looking for someone to continue their return to dominance. The Rays have a great offense built around two dominant players, C Jason Wilson, who finished 2nd in AL MVP voting and 1B/LF Terrence “The Hoosier Thunderbolt” Henderson. However, they lost quite a few players to free agency and have a fair amount of work to do in the off season. The good news is there is around 20M to work with and they are a big budget team with a 136M budget. Their farm system is also not in great shape, so overall the Rays are more of a challenge than their record last season might indicate.

We are filling up and got 3 spots left. This is a great league that if you look up our past threads GMs praise the work of myself (the Commissioner) but the fact is a league is only as good as the guys in it and the group I'm fortunate enough to run this league for are the best of the best in terms of their skills and just the type of guys the are. Always helpful, fun, and enthusiastic about the league.

They make me look like a good commissioner and you should jump in and see for yourself what a great group of guys we got going.

San Diego and Tampa Bay two of the leagues BEST teams still open.
