I'm NOT cool with "deaths" in OOTP what-so-ever

Not much else to say, WAY over the line.

******Edit******

Let me clarify how I felt when I created this thread, perhaps it may allow folks a clear picture of the intent. First and foremost, I get "cyber" injuries and such, that aspect most of us have been desensitized through years upon years of gaming, "It's in the game".

However, and i'll use Detriot Tigers owner, Mike Ilitch. He is currently battling cancer, my initial thought was, "it would be a shame and perhaps devastating for a family member who is playing this game to see something like this". I'm not against a "fictional" death scenario within the game, but to report/create a death scenario that's not factual as it relates to real life, IMHO, is crossing a line.

Hope that helps.

Ok...

But isn't death a part of life? Why do you find it so objectionable?

Death is the faceless man, blending into the crowd, waiting to deliver the last message.

I'm not so much against deaths, as I am left wondering why owners can die, but nobody else can, except for a player's wife/kid/other family member, on rare occasions. I've got 160-year-olds who played in the 1800s, still alive in 1999. Must be Time Lords or something.

This sim is mostly about players, coaches, etc. Who are you to predict/report death to anyone?

I don't feel I need to "explain" my beliefs.

To each their own..................

All due respect, but if you are going to post your opinions/beliefs on a public forum, you can't be surprised or offended if others ask "why". You certainly don't need to "explain" your beliefs, but why so defensive when asked about it, and to that point why post in the forums at all?

As to your previous comment, it is simulating RL situations to add realism to the game and a little color. The game is not trying to "predict" anything.

Just my opinion

If you want a Highlander league, just be prepared to have only one in the end! For there can only be one!

It's not like they make light of it, people die, it's just how things go. Not really sure how accurately projecting real life facts are going WAY over the line?

wait kids die in this?! I've never seen that happen but yeah I don't think that's cool at all, I'm ok with any adult passing away but leave the kids alone, it's got no place in this type of game to be honest.

Great. I was having a good day until I opened this thread. ()

Anyway, sorry facelessman, but I agree with others here; what is actually missing from the game are player and coach deaths. Not necessarily a hue and cry or even a news item for the vast majority (although the passing of "greats" should be noted for sure), but somewhere on the player/coach profile should be a notation for deceased date if they are getting up there in years. It's not realistic to have immortals when your league itself is 100 years old.

Going a step further, there should be some fatal illnesses and accidents in the game; rare for players but increasingly frequent for coaches. As Craig said, death is a part of life and therefore not appropriate to be absent in a game that simulates reality in so many other ways.

There were a couple of storylines that broached that area and have since been removed to preserve good taste, along with a few other items along the way that were not deemed as PC as the audience preferred.

Exactly, all players, coaches, managers, etc should die at some time. It would add to immersion to see the report of a HOFer that just passed. Or maybe even some "cup of coffee" guy that was on your team that you liked because of the type of player he was. Then think back and look over their careers. Base it on life expectancy and move on.

I could see having an option to limit deaths to those that have retired. Some may not want to deal with active "computer beings" passing. But seeing 100+ year olds and knowing they will always be there aging is more morbid than having them pass.

Yeah I wouldn't want to read a story of a kid dying in this game, there's really no need for that. Why not make it the birth of a kid, that allows you to put them on the paternity list and would also include them missing games.
