What is your PRIMARY game mode?

Just thought this would be a fun little poll.

Fictional. I can hate Bryce Harper much better in real life.

I love all my fictional players, even the jerks. Actually I seek them out because often they are winners.

I used to play MLB, until I realized that I'm better with fictional guys.

I'm really attached to Jimmy Wilson, Jason Hannah, and Clarence Harris. Josh Hansen is a pretty cool guy too. Jose Santos is challenging for the top spot. And Bernie Barnes is my favorite utility guy ever.

What? Was I babbling again?

My friends and family think I'm nuts.

For me, it is easier to get hooked in a universe with fictional players. They quickly become "real" and it's quite enjoyable watching their careers unfold.

While I do also play the MLB quickstart, it's easy to get frustrated when certain real-life players don't live up to their actual performances. It's easy to get drawn in by "big names" and how we feel they should perform.

I've only played MLB quick starts but I would love to start a fictional league where I can create al my own stuff and awards and teams locations jerseys etc. but i wouldn't even know where to begin and I'm afraid of how long it would take to set up lol

That's my issue with playing MLB I get frustrated with players performance or trades that I would deem "wouldn't happen in real life"

One of my favorite things to do is create a complete fictional MLB history. This way you're still playing MLB but with all fictional players. For example.

- Start an MLB historical game in 1901.

- Release all players to free agency and then delete them all (this will delete the league's history up to this point).

- Generate fictional players for all teams.

- Sim from 1901 to 2015.

- Take over a team.

Voila.

Are you my clone? All we differ on is that I take over at team in 1901. I've never made it to mid-century (all sorts of reasons for the demise of my leagues) but that's what I do.

By the way, these poll results are very preliminary. No way are we (fictional players) the vast majority in this community.

But it is possible we dominate the forum AND we tend to play more and longer and talk about stuff at great length.

I think the quickstart is the main playing field for casual players, who get the connection of "trade for Trout = win", while fictional and the other modes attract more devoted players willing to dig deep into their fictional Clyde Bradys, Nick Browns, and Yoshi Yamadas to build a team that can produce.

And who would be scouring the forum and have it open in some browser tab the entire day? The casual or the devoted players?

Look at me, explaining the world at three in the morning.

Great minds must think alike, Bru.

As for the (early) results of the poll, I think it's certainly possible that while the MLB QuickStart is probably the choice for the average OOTPer, it's not that unrealistic to assume that the majority of us forum folk play fictional setups.

Perhaps . . . but this is astounding so far. Look at the jump! Did you PM your friends?

Fictional all the way for me, though I usually have one random debut league going.

Another vote for fictional. Every time I've tried to play a real major league season, I lose interest about half way through. Also, there's no frustration when players don't live up to their real-life image.

For me I have a hard time though with the "old time" baseball. I think I should man up and try creating my own fictional league. I do like the creation aspect of things. Starting modern day with a new league. The minors aspect and all the things that go into creating an entire universe from my own interests seems like an overwhelming amount of work. I've said several times that I want to and never do it lol.

Always been MLB QS for me, with the big market Red Sox.

Funny, I just decided to try my first fictional league (and turn off the OV/POT ratings and current actual ratings and leave myself just potential on skills/other at 2-8 . . all for the first time).

I am the proud inheritor of a 101-loss, 57 games behind totally broke franchise with over 60 low/very low work ethic guys.

Let me know when it gets fun

That's why I recommend simming up to 2015 or so, then start playing. That way you'll have an entire MLB history with all fictional players, and you'll still be right there in modern day. So it's both MLB AND fictional.

I primarily play a modern fictional league that I set up in OOTP 15 and converted to 16 (GM-only mode).

This year I'm also enjoying playing out the MLB quickstart game-by-game in manager-only mode (Mets). I'll stop after the season is over, though.

I'm thinking about setting up a long-term fictional league beginning in 1901.
