I think it's going to happen eventually but it's not super close and it wouldn't happen first in baseball. It will happen in MLS, MLL, or the NRFL first. Even once it starts happening it's going to take a LONG time before Baseball starts adopting it.

Here's my set of ideas for Denver...
  • Denver Drifters (Cowboy reference - High Plains Drifter)
  • Denver Continentals (Railroad reference)
  • Denver Spikes (Railroad reference)
  • Denver Tycoons (Reference to mid-1800's millionaires intent on turning Denver into one of the world's great cities.)
  • Denver Busters (Reference to bronco busters.)
  • Denver Auroras (The Northern Lights can sometimes be seen in Colorado)
  • Denver Silverados (Celebrates major silver strike in Leadville)
  • Denver Mastodons (Reference to Mammoth fossils found in Colorado)
  • Denver Buckhorns (Horn of a dear.)

It's already happened in the MLS. New York Red Bulls.

I'm really glad you posted this DreamTeams. I had thought about Mammoths as a name the other night, but as I often do when I'm researching something, I get too many tabs opened and lose my train of thought. This post reminded me of it, so it's going on my shortlist.

I also like Spikes due to it's obvious double meaning, and Drifters sounds pretty good also. I think I'll put both of those on my shortlist too, which admittedly is getting kind of long.

There's already a Colorado Mammoth, granted it is a National Lacrosse League team, but still.

In my fictional leagues, I have one Denver team called Prospectors, and another called Mountaineers. Not the most creative, perhaps, but no worse than Rockies. I see you've already eliminated both of those, though, so I've got nothin'.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I sincerely appreciate each and every one of your suggestions! Ultimately, Mammoths is the name I've decided to go with here.

Yes I know that name technically goes against my very first criterion, but when I said that I didn't want to use a name that had already been done in Denver/Colorado, I didn't exactly have the National Lacrosse League in mind. Not to mention Mammoths is a rarely used name, which is always a plus.

So thanks again to everyone for all your thoughts and suggestions. I truly appreciate it! God Bless!

A team in the NBA TRIED to go all 'corporate naming' but the league wouldn't allow it.

When the Grizzlies moved to Memphis they tried to name themselves the Memphis Express. (Federal Express is one of the biggest companies in Memphis). The league said no and they were left without enough time to rebrand so they were stuck with the (Perfectly good) original name.

In fact, if you go back to 1977, the Toronto Blue Jays were owned by Labatt's, makers of Labatt's Blue (beer). They tried to get around the restriction by calling the team the Blue Jays and trying to get the nickname "The Blues" to stick.

Local reporters would have none of it and kept calling them "The Jays" until the idea of calling them "The Blues" seemed odd.

I also often use the Denver Red Rocks - it refers to the great concert site formed out of the naturally occurring red rock formations outside of the city, built by the WPA during the New Deal.

Or Denver Microbrewers or just Brewers, or the Denver Weeds, or Denver Growers. It's legal there after all. Also the Denver Streetcars, which refers to the beautiful tram that takes you right to the park in Downtown Denver.

In mathematics, the slope or gradient of a line is a number that describes both the direction and the steepness of the line. Slope is often denoted by the letter m. The direction of a line is either increasing, decreasing, horizontal or vertical. A line is increasing if it goes up from left to right. In this case the slope the skiers take.

That's not a sponsorship though Red Bull is the team owner. That's different.
