Promotion/demotion option
I would love to have an option like the EPL in soccer where the bottom teams fall to a lower division and league champions rise to the higher league. It doesn't seem like too hard of an addition to the game and I think many people would greatly enjoy it! Thanks!

Relegation has been asked for many a time. I'd love to see it too, but don't hold your breath.

I don't know how hard it would be to program, but that's one of those things that very few people would use, so I imagine it's way down the priority list, even if it's simple to implement.
I agree that it would be fun to have in the game, though, so now that we have an extra programmer on OOTP, maybe it will show up sooner rather than later. |

If you like P/R join the waiting list for the online league USBA. We are going on 2 1/2 years real time and we have figured out an excellent promotion relegation system.
At present we are all full with 90% of GMs exporting per day, but teams do occasionally open up. That being said we have to rework A LOT of things to make this league happen with the OOTP engine. Luckily, we have had a couple fantastic GMs. PM me if you are interested in the USBA. |

I'm one who has been wanting this for a long time. I've fallen off on playing with a significant factor being the limitations on creating a P/R universe.

Send me a PM if you would like to see a working example of an outstanding P/R league in action.
We also have a guy in the league working on creating an almost exact replica of Euro soccer complete with domestic cups, champions league, ect. When the system is perfected he plans to roll it out as on online league and let me tell you it will be a thing of beauty when it does happen because I have gotten some sneak peeks. |

Yes please! A sorely lacking feature in pretty much every non-soccer based sports game. Would make my life!

If you want to see pro/rel, petition MLB to include it. Then you'll see it in OOTP, too.
Honestly, since not a single pro baseball league has it, I have to imagine it's way down on the priority list. But hey, you can always move teams into different leagues manually...

Manual promotion and relegation is already in the game and doesn't take that long. At least, to an extent - the hardest part is that the OOTP AI is only really designed with making the playoffs in mind, so that finishing in last place is no different than finishing in the middle of the pack.
IIRC Markus at one point said that it should be possible to code in a "relegation league" flag that would cause the teams at the bottom of the standings to flip to "Win Now!" mode, which would help matters, but I that hasn't made it into the game. |

The real problem with promotion/relegation, in my view, are the financial implications. It's a completely different financial environment, so the game's financial engine would need a lot of reworking. (It needs it anyway to better mimic real professional baseball, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards any time soon.) |

Yeah, even as I was writing that, I was thinking there was probably a European league that had pro/rel, but I didn't feel like looking it up and took my chances that there wasn't. Oops.

i kinda like the system baseball has used for the last century plus. Maybe a switch with the owner telling the GM to "win now" rather than rebuilding would be a good option, but not changing divisions, at least not for me.

For what it's worth, it may be due to geography that leagues in North America fall into the 'closed' model whereas in Europe then opt for the 'open' league model. |

Been asking for this for over a decade now... hopefully, finally, we get a little bit of progress on it even if it's just baby steps each year.

Lots of logic goes into Promotion/Relegation, and probably just as much (if not more) coding. I would personally love to see it, but understand if Markus doesn't want to go through the headaches of programming it. Maybe he'll let me!!!!!!
