20-80 scale Vs Potential
Which one do you guys use? Any advantage or disadvantages between the two? How does the 20-80 scale work?
Also do you guys use the 1-20? Last edited by iBrandon; 05-08-2011 at 07:38 PM. |

20-80 scale is preferred. If you speak to a scout that is what they use. 50 is MLB average. Baseball America does a great job of explaining it in their book. You can take a gander at the book store without buying it.

"Grades are given on a base-5 system (40, 45, 50, 55, 60, etc.)...A score of 50 is major-league average, 60 is above-average (also referred to as “plus”), and 70 is among the best (“plus-plus”). 80 is top of the charts, and not a score that gets thrown around liberally. 80s in any category are rare, and the scoring system is definitely a strong curve that regresses to around 50 at the major league level, but lower as you move down. Very few players have a 50 score or higher for every tool. Just being average across the board is quite an accomplishment."

Thanks fellas.
So do you guys use 20-80 scale for all ratings or just potential? Not sure if I should use 1-20 and stars or what... |

for 1-20, the player could be at a 75 or 80 and they both would show up as 20. |

I use the 2-8 for everything. I think it also helps maintain the "fog of war" effect where you can "know" that a given player is a 4 or a 5 (average or clearly below average) but you can never know (in real life) if a guy is a 47 or a 52--real life just isn't that precisely knowable as I see it.

I recently bought the game after playing football manager on iPhone for 2 years (amazing soccer manager simulation game!!!). That is what they use and you don't really have an option to change it. It makes it easier to distinguish good players from bad players but harder to distinguish great players from good players. |

I'll second that! I originally played with 1-100 but found that this was to fine a point scale. In real life is there really a discernable difference between a 75 or 72 power hitter?

Are all of the ratings scales the same as 20-80 in that the midpoint is considered MLB average? So using the 2-8 scale 5 would be average?

Yes, 5/50 is average for those scales.

I have been using the default settings. As in stars and then 1-20 for ratings. Should I be using the others or does it really not make a difference. I do like what the others said about "Fog of War". Its better as you dont know every single detail.
