Ken Kirby 1979 Missing Umpire

Found Kenneth Kirby on Ancestry.com in a 1942 yearbook from Fort Atkinson High School in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. This town was close to Kirby's listed hometown of Busseyville, Wisconsin, and Kirby would have been in high school in 1942, so I think it's safe to say this is the same guy who umpired 7 games in Milwaukee in 1979.

Bud Miller 1979 Missing Umpire

Found a Marvin Miller in a Grover Cleveland High School (St. Louis) yearbook on Ancestry.com from 1942. This matches Bud Miller's age and location. The yearbook also mentions him managing the football team, and Bud Miller also refereed football games in addition to baseball. Looks like a good match.

Gale Miller 1979 Missing Umpire

Found a Gale Miller in Garfield High School (Seattle) yearbook on Ancestry.com. This Miller matches the age and location of the MLB umpire. Not a great photo, but it's the only one I could find of him in the yearbook. His obituary from 2008 says he left school to fight in World War II, so that might explain his lack of photos.

Dick Urlage

Tnfoto had posted a photo in December, 2011, showing Urlage as a minor league player. This obituary photo shows Urlage at perhaps closer to his umpiring age. Urlage died on February 14, 2016.

Pete DeFlesco 1991 Missing Umpire

Retrosheet does not list a hometown for DeFlesco, but this article from the Lyndhurst Leader Newspaper (New Jersey) confirms he is from New Jersey. I found Pete DeFlesco in a Ewing High School (New Jersey) yearbook on Ancestry.com from 1960. He is pictured with the rest of the school's baseball team.

Ted Theilander 1979 Missing Umpire

Ted Theilander is shown here on May 15, 1979, the final of five games he umpired in the big leagues. Gary Alexander is the Indians hitter and the catcher would be Rick Cerone according to the boxscore.

Richard Denny? - Missing Umpire

The attached photo contains the six umpires for the October 3, 1984 AL League Championship Game between the Tigers and the Royals. The umpires were Jon Bible, Randy Christal, Bill Deegan, Richard Denny, Bob Jones, and Carl Nothnagel. The problem is that there was no identifying caption to the photo.

Photos have been posted to this thread for all of the umpires except Richard Denny.

Jon Bible Major League Baseball Umpires - Page 13 - OOTP Developments Forums
Randy Christal Major League Baseball Umpires - Page 29 - OOTP Developments Forums
Bill Deegan Major League Baseball Umpires - Page 14 - OOTP Developments Forums and Major League Baseball Umpires - Page 24 - OOTP Developments Forums
Bob Jones Major League Baseball Umpires - Page 35 - OOTP Developments Forums
Carl Nothnagel This page

Doing my best to make facial comparisons, my conclusion is that Bob Jones is at the far left, Jon Bible is second from left, Bill Deegan is third from left, Randy Christal is fifth from left, and Carl Nothnagel is at far right. That would leave Richard Denny fourth from left. Others may disagree with this conclusion, which is why I referenced the photos of these umpires.

Rob Cook 1999 Missing Umpire

This video from this July 8, 2000 Yankees-Mets game shows Rob Cook umpiring first base, where he calls obstruction on Todd Zeile. This was game 1 of a double header. Joe Buck and Tim McCarver both call him Doug Eddings in the video. However, Eddings did not work game 1, but did umpire home plate in game 2, possibly causing this confusion. Cook is listed as the first base umpire in the boxscore, so I would assume this is him.

Wayne Keister 1978 Missing Umpire

This image comes from the archives of Harford Community College in Maryland, which is the state Keister umpired all of his major league games in. Retrosheet has Keister being born in 1941, which would match the age of this player, as the image is dated 1961-1962, and appears to be about 20 years old.

Matt Winans 1994 Missing Umpire

This photo is from the Anniston (AL) Star of March 8, 1994. The catcher in the upper left corner is Tim Laker of the Montreal Expos. Winans is offering a hand to the Twins' Dave Winfield, who is writhing on the ground in pain after having been hit by a pitch.

Frank Lane 1883 Missing Umpire

The woodcut on the left is from the St. Louis Dispatch of April 1, 1898. The accompanying article stated: " Among those who will be present at Havlin's Theater Monday night ... will be Frank Lane, once famous in the baseball world as a National League umpire. Mr. Lane is now the principal comedian with 'The Trip to Chinatown,' which will be the play at Havlin's Monday night. He plays the part of Welland Strong, and is a great hit in it, as he was in baseball years ago."

The photo of him at the right from one of his acting performances was found in the University of Washington archives.

Joe Mrvos 1979 Missing Umpire

This photo comes from the Pittsburgh Press of October 30, 1989. In the accompanying article, Mrvos is speaking as a Steelers fan. The article cites him as "Joe Mrvos, Dormont." This confirms that we have the right Joe Mrvos, as another article which mentioned him as a replacement ump gave Dormont as his place of residence. This was important, because there was another Joe Mrvos in the Pittsburgh area who appeared in the sports section during the same era, but he was from Bridgeville.

A much larger and clearer image of Dick Urlage (from 1978...so the year before his first replacement ump games) appears in the "Faces and Places" section of the Kenton Public Library...apparently relaxing with friends after a golf outing. I hesitate to post it here because of their rather stern copyright warnings. So I'm just linking instead.
