The Magpies are off to a decent start. Magpies have the top 3 in batting average, and Cy Young leads K's and is hot, hot, hot. Taking 3 out of 4 from expected postseason rival, the 101cats, is certainly sweet.
Norm Cash was acquired, but it's not clear if he should replace Williams at DH or be sold to get the PP needed for the 2 Tigers I still need, and get overall mission reward Newhouser as a bullpen upgrade. |

Critters are the best of the bunch, by a good margin (hey, at least all that money didn't go to waste!) with a 32-12 record in Diamond, and already a lead just over ten games in the division. I think that's a wrapper in May.
The Rebs are a dull 22-22. I have terrible defense and offense, but somehow the whole thing has yet to completely fall apart. Accountants are 20-24, but with a +7 run differential, which hints at some rotten luck. 2-8 in 1-run games. Well, bullpens, huh? Unfortunately they are already 8 1/2 games off the music and a wild card is all they can still realistically get.

Sold some Golds for missions I will never finish, turned it into packs, got a Trevor Story. Groaned and put him up for auction with quick-sell on if it doesn't sell, but he actually got sold for 5,500. Turned that into packs and popped Tatis jr. with the final card. That's a duplicate for the Raccoons, so he's up on the market with quick-sell on, too.
Whatever works!

The Frogs are doing Frog Things in P419 this week. With a 42-13 (+84) record, we are currently leading the division by 8.5 games over Towers of the Dub AAA (0$). We've been a wee nip lucky, however, as the team is 6-0 in extras and 12-3 in one-run contests. The Frogs are outplaying their pythag by 6 whole games.
The Summit Dirigibles are still holding onto the top overall record in P419 (43-11, +169) as they do intra-division battle with the 4-time PL champ Huntley Red Raiders (37-18, +132) who have been a bit unlucky (-4 pythag). Nice to see Huntley has already accessed that new 100 Norm Cash card--it looks like 100 Yaz is the odd man out there. Not a bad problem to have. 100 Lou Gehrig (.258/.376/.423) is getting his first run for the Frogs this week and my early analysis is it's a weird card. Gehrig batted .329 with 3 HR in April and followed that up with a .181 May. In early June, he feels like the luckiest man in the world again and is batting .400 so far. I have a feeling this card will be extraordinarily streaky. I have to say that my worries about the low Avoid K rating have been entirely founded. Gehrig is on pace to whiff 171 times. My worries about his extreme pull tendency might be entirely unfounded as he's maintaining a generous .376 BABIP so far. The Frogs are doing that weird bimodal pitching staff thing again where the starters are struggling (4.17 ERA, 10th) but the bullpen is dominant (1.88 ERA, 1st). Ed Walsh is 8-1 with a 3.05 ERA so it might be time for him to retire? How's he gonna 3-peat as pitcher of the year with numbers like that? Gross. We've ever so gently raised the HR ballpark factor to 0.94/0.92 from 0.91/0.91. Baby steps after having it minimized for so long. But, with a lineup that includes luminaries such as Yelich, Gehrig, Chipper, Berra, and co. I'm not sure it makes sense to have that minimized in perpetuity. Lastly, the Fighting Frogs can sleep soundly that our mortal enemies, the Costa Rica Dart Frogs have a worse record (37-16). There can only be ONE true team of Frogs and the earlier those other frogs realize that, the better. I like to think of that team as the Newman to my Jerry. The Judean People's Front to my People's Front of Judea. The David Boston to my Charles Woodson. The Ned Flanders to my Homer Simpson. The Bob Saget on AFV to my Dave Chappelle stand up comedy show. The smooth peanut butter to my superior crunchy peanut butter. The...you get the idea? Down with those Dart Frogs! Splitters! Oh how I hate those Dart Frogs! (melodramatic enough?)

Surpisingly, the Raccoons have a lead over the Moline Maroons right now (they have 6 perfect titles including 2 straight plus 123 & 125 W the previous 2 seasons). A 21 game winning streak helped out a wee bit. The 4k PP was nice too. Our very next "achievement" after that 4k, was 100 PP for a 5 game losing streak. It figures.
It seems to be a pitchers league this year. Our batting AVG of .292 (.253 NC AVG) is 17 pts. lower than last year, but still leads the league and we're once again #1 in R, though we're down a fair bit from last year there too. I decided not to look for relief help, but instead save up for a SP, like Pedro maybe or Walsh or ... I had tried to sell 99 Johnson on the AH 3 seasons ago, but he didn't sell and once I moved him to the bullpen, he's been outstanding. He won relief pitcher of the year last season and would have the previous if he'd pitched more in relief so I decided to use him in the bullpen and Seaver as an SP for now.

After a demotion to Silver, the Quokkas are in the midst of a re-tooling, as I am going with a rookie theme. You wouldn't know it, though, as they are 17 games above .500 and have a five-game lead in their division. No allegations of tanking here!
Over in Perfect Land, the Redlegs are following up their first-ever PL playoff appearance with a fine season so far. We are 28-26, just one game out of first, and actually have been in first place in the division more than any other squad so far. No surprise that the Colorado Lions (6 PL titles), Hammertime Express (4) and Jersey Revolutionize (3) are the class of P423 so far, all with .700+ records. Thankfully our division is fairly wide open. On an interesting note, the team that beat us in the WC game last season, the Austin Weirdos, ended up winning the whole shebang with an 86-80 record. So congrats to them on their first PL title. In P417, the Lumber Company could not avoid a whale. The completely inappropriately named Fresno Losers (3) are 46-9 and have opened up a 12 1/2 lead in May. The Lumber Company are 22-30 and four games up in the loss column on the final relegation spot, so they need to chop some wood. Unfortunately, with just 10K in the bank, reinforcements will not be forthcoming. And The Team That Shall Not Be Named is NOT a Tigers, Angels or Nationals themed team, so they will remain nameless.

The team I run with my dad, the Doctrine, is looking like they will struggle to win the division but we have a shot. Hopefully we can repeat our division win from last season (by 1 game on the last day of the season, but still) and get into the playoffs again, but we'll see. I run the pitching and I have not been happy with where we are at, but as F2P, its hard to access the really reliable starters for perfect levels

An extremely fine month with a nice 2 out of 3 series win against the 101cats to top it off. I note he's been asking on Discord about picking up Berra and Ozzie, 2 players I have that he doesn't, while I look it his team and wish I had Flick, Jennings, and Hoyt. But, can anything really move the needle on a 128-win average team? Selling Norm Cash repaid everything I had spent on the Tiger collection, minus 1 card. That 1 card I still need I had actually purchased just minutes before collections dropped--for my Tiger themed team.. (A team I hardly ever look at or care about, but it's got 200K+ banked; maybe I should work on that).

All three of my teams are leading their divisions, and all three have identical 36-20 records. That must be a bizzare, never-happen-in-a-thousand-years type thing.

And finally, on a completely unrelated to P419 note... That would be the 140-game winner (67-game winning streak!) Colorado Lions and 130-game winner Jersey Revolutionize that were in Huntley's league last year. So A) "Random" League Placement strikes again! and B) if they're "only" at .700 winning percentages, count your blessings...

Same strategy this season and we're currently 30-38. Hopefully one or two reinforcements if not this season than next as I finish up Expos and, more importantly, Senators / Twins missions.

The Miners are repeating their early season success of last season and are 45-23 with a 14.5 game lead. As bad as this team played the final 50 games last season, they've turned it around and are playing way above their actual abilities. We'll see if they can hold on or blow an even bigger lead this season.
The Marathoners are 33-30 and 3 games back. Not much happening as some players are a little above expectations and others below... just about like all Perfect League teams. The YakAnglers are 31-36 and should be 31-39 in a few games as we are in game 2 of a 4 game set with the 4-time Perfect Champions Chicago Cubbies. We just got swept by the 3-time champions, the Doha Oilers. Hopefully we're done playing the exceptional teams, if so, we may have a chance at the division. The Mt. St Helens Volcanoes lead the division at 32-35. So there's a little hope to make the playoffs and get beat in the division series. Added Perfect Yelich and 98 SE Vlad Guerrero, so far not too bad, but always hoping for more. Probably should have bolsted the rotation, but have to pick and choose which holes to plug.

Had a bit more luck with the Quokkas - I made the decision to sell 100 Live Cody Bellinger - he was having a bit of a down year, anyway. Amazingly, there were no other Bellingers on the AH at the time.
Even more amazing, someone was kind enough to pay the 33,334 BIN. Despite his sale, we're still in 1st place, now 20 games above .500 with a 2 1/2 game lead. So between two cards, neither of which were making any lasting, positive contribution to the season, in a 24-hour span, the Quokkas cleared 100,001 PP. That'll buy a lot of rookie cards!

We're sitting 12 games above .500 and in first of our division. My goal for the year was just to make a Perfect league once, so there is a chance!!
Right now, I am waiting on an Ozzie Albies to show up in the AH to finish the Braves mission. I think platooning my 100 Joey Gallo in left could beef up the lineup since Gallo is hitting a cool .180 against lefties, but about .300 against Righties. Carlon Fisk, Mike Trout, David Wright, Francisco Lindor, and Anthony Banda are leading vote-getters in their respective All-Star positions, so I am really happy with the performance of them (especially 4.4 WAR already David Wright!) Max Scherzer is leading the league with 13 wins, but not even close to an all-star bid (sadly). Speaking of pitchers, I am THIIIIIIIS close to shutting down Betances. He seriously is the most frustrating guy in my pen.

As play begins today, we see our ramshackle collection of Diamond teams in the following situations:
Accountants remain mired in muck, 41-42, eight games out in the division, and 3 1/2 removed from a wild card. They interestingly have the best D in their league, which they cleverly circumvent by giving up an ungodly amount of dingers. The Rebels are up to 47-38 after posing consecutive winning months and are unbeaten in July, but still 6 1/2 out in the division. They do hold the first wild card, though, with a 3-game cushion. Pitching is a problem, which is unsurprising when you are relying on live SP's in your rotation. I will definitely not do a packs-only team next year. +++ That was as much as I had written when suddenly the new collections released. Sharp changes comin'! +++ With the Cards collections out, the Accountants immediately separated with long time infielders Ken Boyer and Red Schoendienst for profit. Truth be told, neither was a major offensive force. Boyer sold within minutes. The infield is a bit "improvised" until I can cart on replacements. Plugging the holes by playing McNeil full time (his D is atrocious though) and a 1990 Matt Williams at third base that I bought with Silver League stats that hint at him being as much help as a fly-laden carcass in Diamond. Meanwhile the Raccoons are 60-26 and 18 games up in their sad-sack division.

My packs only is still struggling in Diamond. This despite having the only perfect historical I ever pulled (Sandy Koufax).

P419: Huntley's Up, Huntley's Down
The Red Raiders put together a spectacular 22-5 June, featuring a 12-game winning streak, to vault itself back into the division race with the Summit Dirigibles. This surge was obviously driven by the savvy manager's acquisition of Norm Cash, who instantly jumpstarted the team with his June batting line of <checks monthly splits> .188/.316/.338. Um, well, OK, that clearly wasn't it. Really, it was mostly pitching-and-defense driven, with starters Curt Schilling (6-0, 0.84 ERA, 528 ERA+), Roger Clemens (5-0, 1.27 ERA, 350 ERA+), and Ed Walsh (4-0, 1.83 ERA, 241 ERA+), along with closer Eric Gagne (8 saves, 0.00 ERA, 999 ERA+), leading the way.
The Red Raiders continue to struggle on offense; the team is off to a less than inspiring 6-5 start in July, and in those 5 losses, Huntley scored 1, 2, 0, 1, and 0 runs. Lou Gehrig rewarded his manager's faith in him by hitting .067/.152/.167 in July before being sent down to the Reserve Roster; come on back up, Yaz! Overall, the team is third in the AC in runs scored, but just getting hits has been a big problem; batting average is a flawed statistic, for sure, but it hurts to see the bottom half of Huntley's lineup hitting .220 (Ken Griffey Jr), .205 (Gehrig before being exiled), .200 (Mickey Mantle), and .183 (Cash). Meanwhile, it's a Froggy world, and we're just hopping in it (La Crosse: AC-best 68-22; Costa Rica: NC-best 59-30)...
