Picky Hall of Fame voters

Let me start off by saying that this is by no means a complaint - in fact, I'm enjoying this quite a bit.

I started a historical simulation in 1871, and have been simming through, with a few alterations. Instead of having players debut on their actual teams, I'm having an amateur draft. I also turned off the reserve rules, which means that I have free agency.

I've not been following closely. Instead, I've been simming many seasons at a time and checking in with the progress. My original plan was to wait until 1936 to turn on the Hall of Fame, but I got impatient and turned it on in 1911.

Now, I understand that there's going to be a backlog of players, but after two elections, Cap Anson is still awaiting the call. At the time of his retirement, he was the all-time leader in hits, runs, RBI, and homers. He's still the all-time leader in runs scored.

3,165 hits, a 134 OPS+, 4 championships, a World Series MVP, two regular season MVPs, 10 Silver Slugger Awards, and 23 All-Star games...and so far he's up to only 66.5 percent in the voting.

Which is actually cool, because most of the offensive players who have been voted in have better rate stats than Anson. Except one - Hugh Duffy. I can't figure that one out. Duffy has 3,031 hits, 119 OPS+, 2 championships, a World Series MVP, 0 regular-season MVPs (though he did win Rookie of the Year, which Anson didn't), 5 Silver Sluggers and 10 All-Star games. Yet he got in with 96 percent of the vote on his first try.

I'm choosing to believe that writers are punishing Anson for his purported role in establishing baseball's color line - in which case, good for them.

Anyway, if anybody has questions on any players or teams, I'd be happy to answer. I'm probably going to sim until about 1930 tonight.
