Baseball - The Global Game
Baseball – The Global Game
I’m playing out a baseball universe where baseball, not soccer became the globally played game. I’ve started a universe in 1875 with just an MLB-based historical league. Over time, I’ve added a few leagues to different countries, and I’ve tweaked the “program quality” settings of different leagues, reflecting the growing popularity of the game in different countries over time. In this thread, I’m going to post updates from this world, as the global game grows and expands. Here’s a little overview of what I’ve set up between 1875 and 1894, which is when the first World Cup will be held. • Major League Baseball – historical league based on real life MLB • Brazil Serie A • Caribbean Baseball League – with 20 teams in four divisions from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Curacao, Haiti, Aruba, and Trinidad & Tobago • La Liga: 18 team from Spain and Portugal • Liga Big Leagues: 16 teams from Mexico • Ligue 1: 16 teams from France • NBP: 16 teams from Japan • Venezuelan Baseball League: 18 teams, mostly in Venezuela but also with teams in Colombia, Guyana, Surinam, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Paraguay • Beisbol Patagonia: 18 teams from Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile • British Premium League: 18 team from UK and the Republic of Ireland • Canadian League: 8 teams from Canada • Serie A: 16 teams from Italy For a few other countries and regions, I’ve set the baseball quality level to Excellent, and set the player settings of neighboring countries with leagues to have a lot of players. Those countries are: Netherlands, Greece, all of Central America, Belgium, Switzerland, and Iceland. |

The first World Cup is in 1894. This would serve as the blueprint for the first Olympic Games in 1896. I followed the current structure of the real FIFA World Cup, with 8 groups of 4 and a 16 team knockout.
Knockout Round: And the Final: I think that I need to up the player creation modifiers on non-US leagues, since the American team is overpowering: |

And we are on to the 1902 World Cup:
And Spain wins it again: The Final wasn't particularly close: I'll make a post soon documenting the early "history" of the Spanish league, since they've been so successful in the World Cup. |

OK, let's get into the history of the MLB so far, so that I'm through the 1919 season and officially out of the deadball era:

Here are some really cool fictional international players.
Ilusuarte Yoshioka is a Japanese Brazilian Shortstop who played most of his career in Venezuela: Nick Garcia is a Spanish pitcher who was basically unhittable until he went to the US to play with the St. Louis Browns: |
