Do pitchers ever get named Playoff Series MVP?
I do not ever recall a pitcher being named Series MVP. I know in my big world dynasty I had a pitcher win two of the four playoff games in the series and had an Avery/MadBaum like series. He wasn't named MVP.... another player who had one dinger, five ribbies, and hit .412 did.

They certainly do -- it's rare in modern times, though, because they just don't pitch that many games, and some batter or other usually has a good week.
If a pitcher wins games 1, 4, and 7 of a 7-game series in dominant fashion, it could be enough -- but a lot of stuff has to line up. (The team has to go 1-3 in the other four games, the pitcher has to be really good, and 7 games is enough time for a hitter to rack up a bunch of hits too.) You'll see pitchers getting World Series MVPs a lot more in 19th-century play, though, because most rotations are 2-3 players. (Sometimes 1, particularly in the 1870s!) So in the postseason, it's easy (at least for the human player) to trim that down to 2, and pitching more than half of the games gives a pitcher a good shot at accumulating the numbers to contend for it. |

In a historical test league that I'm running, the '62 Dodgers just swept the Orioles. Don Drysdale won the series MVP award, based upon his 5-hit shutout in game two (8 k's, 1 bb; his only appearance in the series). The award just as easily could've gone to Maury Wills, who hit safely & scored in all four games, batting .389 with 7 runs scored and a couple of steals. But nope, it went to the pitcher!

In the 18th century part of my historical game simulations that happen more often than not... but considering most teams use only two pitchers it isn't that surprising.
