This warrants an explanation
Any soccer fans out there that can fill in the blanks on this one?

Looks like he caught a knee in the, ahem, "lower back" on a header. Or as I heard it referred to in a basketball game, the "extreme upper thigh".
Joking aside, those can be really painful and dangerous. Neymar had his back broken when a player led with the knee on a jump.

Hah, case in point as to what I just posted in another thread.
Well, I'd say this is NOT a case of "diving" to get a breather. That agony looks genuine. I'd say the player just got kicked in the butt and is having a pain-numbing freeze spray applied. Or he's got a hairy a$$ than needs blow-drying when sweaty for maximum comfort and agility.

By the uniforms I think that is a match from the Belgian top league.
The spray is a instant cooling spray you can get from about anywhere. I have never seen a “gun” dispenser like that though. It looks like the player has some type of injury to the lower back or tailbone area. Those sprays have dubious value but often the “injuries” themselves are dubious. I will give the player the benefit of the doubt and guess that he was kicked in the small of the back or went up for a header and lost his balance and landed on his back or tailbone. Or he simply could have been running and pulled a muscle or twisted and pulled something. I will admit out of context it looks very odd. And those sprays, just about every team uses them but I think they have very little value. |

The sprays do a good job of quickly numbing an area. I have had them used to numb my shoulder for a cortisone shot and they are effective. My doc didn't have a way cool gun like that, though!

But against bruises and muscle pulls that spray works for maybe 10 minutes before the pain returns. Best to use an oral nsaid and if the injury get worse then substitute the player off. |

I do remember several decades ago that MLB players used to have their hands/arms/legs sprayed like this after being hit by a pitch. When did that stop, and why?

EDIT: Bruce, what's with the repeated use of "bit"? Are things getting to you a bit? Worried about being bit by something?

I can see your thinking however I think the video kit is Red were Brugge seems a darker red, what is puzzling is the sponsorship it doesn't match either Brugge or Liege.

Rudel you were correct, it is Brugge. Heres a fuller video with how he got injured.
