Why can't my team run the bases?
Late in the 2028 regular season, and sitting at a MBL best 97-59 and just two games from clinching the overall best record , the St. Louis River Walkers seem to do everything well.
Except run the bases, where in fact they are probably the worst team in the league. My base running rating is a +1.2, good for 11th in the 13-team National League. I swear not long ago it was well into the negatives and ranked 13th. Now it isn't a team of speedsters but I would say there are only one or two real plodders in the every day lineup, and swiping bags really isn't part of the game plan. But this team can't seem to take an extra base without getting thrown out close to/if not more than 50 percent of the time. Even when the dialogue box reads average arm and exceptional runner, I am getting people thrown out at an alarming clip. By this point, it has me playing on eggshells in terms of being somewhat aggressive on the bases. Obviously it has not cost me in the regular season. But after Game 162 wraps up, there are seven more (three in the NLCS and four in the World Series) left to win, and I am fearful it could cost me there. It's probably too late to clean things up for 2028, but any suggestions on what can I do in the offseason to ensure the Walkers are better runners. |
