Scouting the Draft

It is now May 14 in my save--9 days after the draft was revealed.

There are only 3 players at AVERAGE (I think is because they were hurt at the start), everyone else is HIGH or VERY HIGH. I simply clicked on the button at the top of the selection column and asked to have every player scouted. That has happened three times.

Essentially everyone got scouted in 2 days. The estimates of 16 or more days never mattered. It was a day or two. I will have almost everyone at VERY HIGH on draft day. The players who drop down to HIGH will cause me to closely look at the scout history to see if they are trending up or down.

Is this the way it is supposed to be? Simply setup a few scout-all to get the world to VERY HIGH?

The estimate for Danny Zimmerman, the alphabetical bottom of the half-star players, was 199 days. He got a new report the next day.

Yes that’s pretty much how it’s gonna work with scouting.

But just because you have them at Very High now doesn’t mean they’ll be that way when the draft comes on June 4th. You have to continually get reports to keep them up to date. Because as they play and progress on their high school or college season, their scouting report can and usually will change.

I think it depends on where you set your budget and percentage of how much time your scout is spending between ML-MiLB-Amaetur-International. For example, I have it set to mostly minor league and amateur, so I am getting the same results as you in terms of turn around time for the draft. On the flip side, if I’m targeting a ML player in a trade and want a better scouting report, it will take my scout 5-6 days to come back with one. That’s at least what I’ve found so far.

I kind of wish everything was organic and you couldn't set individual scouting assignments. Just have all reports based on your scout ability and scout budget in each category. Keep the focus options for certain positions/ages/whatever.

The best strategy being to manually scout a whole draft class over and over seems gamey and too much micromanagment.

Everybody was VERY HIGH on draft day. May 31 was the last day I did a scout-all to be certain it would get done.

As was hoping a few would have dropped to HIGH because I have found that those players did have a change--often for the better. But nothing this time.

I'm still put-off by the estimated time to scout being utterly meaningless.
