Newbie: Building a team

I realy enjoying ootp perfect team, what a wonderfull game.

As a newbie i have a question about team building. I dont buy any player packs, i try to get better players at the market. With just 2000-3000 PP i can buy 1-2 "good" player (gold players 80-89 rating).

In most leagues i see some teams look like this:

If i understand the player packs correctly, the chance to get a 100 rating player is 1:1000. The team above has 5 of this players. It is very unlikly that this player get the players with player packs, because he has to open around 5000 packs to get them. Dont get me wrong, i am not envious. This team manager has a realy good team in the stone league. He is doing something fundamentally different than i do. I just get some gold, max level 89 guys at the market.

What im doing wrong?

If the manager trade for this guys, like i do, he needs tons of PP. This manager has: 5 100 Rating players and 21 90+ players.166 Players in reserve, 20 reserve players 90+, rest is just gold, some silver and bronze.

Lets do the math. 5 players with rating 100, its hard to judge the average price, 80 k seems fair. 40 players with a rating 90+, one player cost 9000 average. The golden players, lets say 120 players (some were silver, bronze), average price for a golden player 1700.

5*80000= 400.000 PP

40*9000= 360.000 PP
120*1700 = 204.000 PP

Total PP spent 964.000 PP. Ok ... how can i get 964.000 PP in the stone league? Sure, i can buy them with real money. But than i have to pay ... 5,4 PP Packs with 175.000 PP each. this means 6 packs with 175.000 PP, or 600 US Dollar to get the PP.

Ok, if i trade for the guys, i dont buy the golden crap this player has. Looks like he is opening just player card packs.

Can he get the 5 100 players with just opening the player card packs?
To get 5 player, he has to open 5000 packs (chance 1:1000 to get a 100 rating player). One Pack 1000 PP.
Lets do the math again ...
5000*1000 = 5.000.000 PP.

to get 5 mio PP, i have to pay 29 175000 PP packs. One 175 k PP packs costs 99$. That would be 2.900 dollar

I think, the manager cant get the players with player cards. if he just trade for them, he dont need all the crappy gold players.

and so my question. how could this guy get this team??
i wanne learn and use his tactic too!
(and i dont wanne pay 2900 us dollar )

You're not necessarily doing anything wrong - people DO spend a lot of money on their teams sometimes. It's possible you ran into one of them. The way the promotion/relegation system works though, you won't be stuck with them forever. It'll all work itself out in a few weeks.

Actually it is 1 100-player per 200 packs

The odds are 1-1000 but that is per card not per pack, You get 6 cards per pack in a standard pack, 1 is guaranteed to be a bronze the other 5 cards are the random cards. Divide all your numbers by 5 and Bob's your uncle.

2900 / 5 = 580 US dollars. Still an insane amount (inho).

His tactic is the same as the Yankees: throw a wallet at the problem. If the problem persists, throw another wallet.

Yes, there are people who will spend tremendous amounts of money on this game. We call them "whales" so when you see that term pop up again and again (and you will when you hang out on this board) you know what it means.

Other players may grumble about whales from time to time, but we are all still appreciative that they are willing to pay the developers all that money, which allows them to create, as you said, this wonderful game.

And I don't know about others, but I'm a bit jealous as well. I wish I had a spare $2,900 to spend on Perfect Team!

Thx Pine Tar and KleineBiere to correct me, my statement "1000 player packs to get one 100 rating player is wrong".

Its good to know that other managers use real money to get these players. I thought i made some mistakes.

BigRed75, i like the Yankees example
But as u said, these peoples spend OOTP money and OOTP use it to develop a better game and earn money for their families.

And as chazzycat said, these whales leave the small fish tank i swim in very soon to play with the other big fishes around there.

Thanks for the answers!

Welcome aboard GBL. Best advice I can give is take your time in the early going. In about 2-4 weeks things will tend to sort themselves out ... the whales will be at the top or in perfect, the tournaments will probably be altered a little (tournament reward cards added), more missions to do, lots of fun ahead so don't get discouraged and feel you need to have your team 'set' because it's a long haul (giving myself this advice right now since I'm getting obliterated in silver and only have about .260 record right now)!
