HIstorical Start-up
I am likely missing something but I'm having a problem when trying to start up a 1966-67 NHL league. The first league scree when I create it starts off on October 1. I would like to advance the date after setting up my team but I received the message that the contract minimum is exceeded and can't advance until I release players to get to the 50 contract limit.
Since teams at that time sometimes had in excess of 100 players in their organizations, in the interest of historical accuracy I would like to change the contract limit to something like 99. Problem is that to do that I have to change the league rules. League rules can only be changed on July 1 and I don't see any way to move the calendar backwards from October 1. I suppose I could just sim 1965-66 and start again on July 1 1966, but I'd still have to release a huge number of players on each team to sim that season and then add them again later on when I can change the roster limit. That's a lot of work just to get to where I want to start historically. Couldn't the game be altered slightly so that when creating a league the program begins on July 1 so you can edit the rules? Am I missing a way to do this? |

One possible, albeit time consuming solution would be to do this. Turn on commissioner mode, then edit a bunch of the players under contract so that they aren't under contract any more, but retain their rights. That way they will still be in your organization, but not counting against your contract limit.

Starting on July 1 would cause a few issues, so that's probably out. But I'd already increased some of the earlier yearly contract limits to fix another issue (that'll show up in the next data update), so I think I'll just extend that up through the last original 6 years, where the teams tend to accumulate a ton of players.
