I'm sure there's another difference between the 2 situations, just can't quite seem to put my finger on it exactly.....

With Rodgers vs the 49ers, on the other hand, in looking at the reply, he was moving backwards (to execute the play) when the fumbled snap happened. He tried to change gears but at that point the ball was in the scrum of offensive & defensive linemen. It's possible, even likely, that by the time he was able to initiate forward movement, he didn't know where the ball was.

I say all this from the perspective of realizing that you guys are just goofing around with regards to previous posts. And also from the perspective that while Cam's was clearly more-questionable from a "what the heck was he thinking?" perspective, his decision not to dive after the ball was made in an instant; who knows what flashed in his mind? That one play shouldn't define his career.

Exactly. They weren't even close to being similar plays, as I said before. One guy actually had a chance at recovering the fumble. The other did not.

I am a bit shocked to see the 49'ers in the SuperBowl. I had them at 8-8 this season, maybe 10-6 if everything went perfect.

SuperBowl should be interesting. SF will be able to run at will against KC and control the clock. The game will be in Mahomes hands, and the SuperBowl hasn't been kind to young QBs.

Are you talking about this last game? The play where Rodgers had 0 chance at recovering? I was assuming you were talking about a different play.

As you already probably know, I am not a Rodgers fan. I have nothing against Cam. But the two situations are night and day.

I'm not that surprised. When you have 5 first round picks on the defensive line you can do damage. They also have a TE that is like a 6th offensive lineman blocking for the run.

IMO I don't see Mahomes having that much more success than Rodgers. But I do see them slowing down the run better than the Packers. So it should be interesting.

Neither play really mattered at all and neither were going to recover it anyway. This is like complaining about a basketball player not feigning hustle into the stands to save a ball he has no chance at getting.

Theres a better chance the ball gets booted around in the scrum and lands back at them

Probably wouldn't have got it anyway, that's true. It's just a worse look for Cam. He took himself out of the play while the other made no attempt to insert himself into the play.

I wonder if Vegas gives odds on when AB ends up in jail or 6 ft under. My guess is he will get shot by a SWAT team while barricaded in his house.

I think Eli is the Kirk Gibson of the NFL.

Good comparison in that they definitely had solid, if unspectacular careers on the whole, with - exactly two each - shining moments when the pressure was highest and the lights were brightest, which definitely counts for something.

The difference between their otherwise solid-but-unspectacular overall careers, I think, is that Kirk's was due to injuries (he had phenomenal all-around skills when healthy), whereas Eli's just was what it was. (Not a knock on either, just pointing it out.)

For those questioning if Eli should be hall of fame or not, I'll pose one question. Is there a player in the hall of fame where you can take away a single play from his career and he would not be a hall of famer? Can you find one? In any sport?

Take away that helmet catch which was mostly luck, and no one even has this conversation about Eli.
