Tuesday beta question
Is it not recommended to start my long term save?

I don't plan on it, I've been burned before. I'm going to study the new features, make some stadiums for my fictional teams, and start my long term save with the release on the 20th.

I always move game up at night and let it move my save while I sleep the first day. from (2012 to 2093 and takes forever) I will play the game for a couple hours after work using the default to see the new features

i agree with Curve Ball Dave. I always wait before i move my dynasty. And i always recommend that online leagues wait until we think that the new version is stable and isn't going to ruin your save.
The early days of the new version is great for experimenting. i'll be playing with the ballpark kit. But i also have a test league, that i always import first and i play around with it. |

As always make an external backup (zip your league folder), and I'd recommend setting your auto-save to weekly, but it's unlikely something catastrophic will happen*. Some things will change between Tuesday and Friday, but there will also be changes and tweaks for months after release, so you can play the waiting game indefinitely. Personally I prefer to play.
* Even if the game crashes, your league will be fine relative to the last point it was saved. It's not like years ago where stats and text files would get messed up when you "went back in time".

The guys above are pretty spot on. I usually transfer my fictional league and play it for a while until every thing is worked out.

I do so many test leagues, sims and exhibitions during the beta period, my PC heads to the showers on its own accord!

That might depend on how you play. If you sim big chunks of the season at a time then might be best to wait. If you play 'em all out one at a time you won't be losing much if a bug comes up as there will, more than likely, be a release day patch. In any case if you play you have to go in knowing you may ( and this probably won't happen, OOTP has been very stable on release for quite awhile ) have to start over. So the question to you is... Would having to start over and seeing some different results from the first time drive you crazy?
What I normally do is import my on-going game and then make a backup. Open the game and proceed to build my custom views and ball park cameras (the new export to all stadium feature is so nice) I play 'em all out so once done I will start playing, of course, checking the forums first for any issues that may have come up. Which the last few years have been minimal. IIRC the only time I ever started over was during the total rewrite of 2006. If something goes wrong I can go to my v21 backup. Or if a bug crops up that borks imports I can always import my v20 game again. Importing doesn't do anything to your previous years save, you cam import it as many times as you like. |

I never wait, this game has been very stable at release for a number of years now. I can pretty much guarantee you that by Friday OOTP20 won't even exist on my HD anymore. Of course I have backups of my OOTP20 leagues. Still have backups from 17, 18, and 19. Last edited by Bluenoser; 03-15-2020 at 10:16 AM. |

I've been playing since OOTP9, and i cannot remember a time where i ran into a game breaking bug that would impact a long term save. It's likely best to wait to start a long term game but I never have and wouldn't expect any major issues if you don't.

While I can't recall ever having a problem importing a saved game from the previous version I go for safety. I mess around with all the new stuff on the pre-release for a few days, play out some historical exhibition games to see the 3D improvements, maybe even build stadium or two this time.
Then download the official release on day 1 and continue to just explore the features maybe run a few sims of seasons. I wait until two days after official release to import my old save just to be sure there are no awful bugs that need a fix right off the bat.
