A rare find. Frankie Campbell, heavyweight contender of the late 1920s who died in the ring. Brother of firstbaseman Dolph Camilli.

Campbell, pictured earlier, had a short but interesting career. After a good start, he struggled a bit, then got stopped by Charlie Belanger May 9, 1928 in Frisco when the ref intervened to prevent him from getting seriously hurt. He then ran off 14 straight wins, all knockouts, before running into Max Baer on August 25, 1930. In the 5th round Baer had him out cold, but the ropes held him up and Baer continued to pummel Campbell without mercy. Doctors worked on him in the ring, but it was too late. Baer outweighed Campbell (Camilli) by nearly 35 pounds.
Somehow I don't feel so sorry for the beating Maxie took from Joe Louis. Cap
