Many of these fighters do not have boxrec numbers. In order to prevent overwrite errors which have plagued me I gave them numbers. Currently, the highest boxrec numbers are still under 500,000. Therefore, I started giving amateurs, old timers and fantasy fighters (like Rocky Balboa) numbers starting at 1000001. I figure it will be a long time (if ever) that the boxrec people get that high.

Thanks Bear for posting those links to my articles. By the way, I revised many of the bare knuckle fighters I had previously sent to you so you might want to download them from this forum again. I've enjoyed your Parade of Tomato Cans. I'm currently on page eleven of that thread.

Have you checked out the Corinthian Thread, John?
I think I've gotten up to or just past Slack.

Corinthians
Yes, I saw and downloaded everyone in it. Liked "A Yokel" and other such descriptions of the fighters. Like the African Hitler The Killer best though. I tried to read Boxiana which I own but I couldn't far into it before I gave up. By the way, why do you call them Corinthians?

Corinthians
Sounds like politically correct new speak to me! In pro wrestling guys that used to be called "jobbers" (guys who would always lose--or do a "job" for the main talent) are now known as "enhancement wrestlers".

Corinthians
Oh. I didn't realize you had a thread called Corinthians. I was referring to the guys in your Tomato Can parade. I will download your work and compare it to mine. I was surprised nobody ever really attempted to rate those pioneers.

The Prize-Fighters there include some of the swordsmen and cudgel experts that fought for prizes as well as pugilists. When I created them I used templates that Conn Chris shared with me from his Royal Explorers universe. He has zip files of his fighter creations in that thread. When I was rorking on the Corinthians I utilized a number of sources: Boxiana Vols I, II, and III; Pugilistica Vols I. II, and III; Several editions of Fistana for records, as well as some of the appendices from the Jack Scroggins reprint, Bob Mee, and Tony Gee's works, and other sources. I'm lucky to have also picked up a scapbook that has an Australian Fistaina listing fights by Australian bare-knucklers. I haven't gotten much beyond 1760 in my fighter creations, but I plan to keep going at some point. Have a number of projects on my agenda. The continuing parade of TCs, contenders, challengers. I'm also planning to add fighters that appeared in record books, like T.S. Andrews "Ring Battles of the Centuries". The 1924 publication has records for about 200 fighters not yet rated that would have been "names" 85 years ago. bear

Projects
You're like me. I have a half dozen projects going at once. And that is just in regards to Title Bout alone. I do other things like write trashy science fiction which I enjoy doing but can't seem to get it published. I was disappointed to find that the info for the various Corinthians you posted on the forum with their ratings did not appear in their bios. Is there something I can do about it short of painstakingly transcribing it all directly onto their bios?

As much as I've never played this game, the topic of Bare Knuckle fighters led me to post about this guy:
Bartley Gorman. He's not an old timer (he only died in 2002) but I think any list of bare knuckle guys should contain him. *leaves this section again* |

Writing
I've written nothing more in regards to sports but I have written a couple of articles on the Civil War that are on the 33rd Wisconsin web site. I also write sci fi but have never got anything published in that depressed, glutted market. Luckily I have a day job.
