Zack Godley is a non-roster invitee. I think he has a good shot to make the club. I'm really interested to see what they do with Funkhouse, Burrows and Norris in particular. Funkhouse is 25 and it is probably time to see what he has. Burrows is a name I feel like we have heard about for 5 years but he is only 23 so I can see him back in the minors. Then you have Norris. The great frustration. Are they going to continue to use him as an opener? I feel like this is the absolute last season the fanbase will be patient with all the SP prospects. If they don't start showing these guys off at the MLB level it could get ugly if it hasn't already got there for people.

Seems like this guy knows his stuff New pitch Alex Wilson throwing a side arm pitch by all accounts, just read a story about Nova taking on the veteran roll; everyone starts 0-0 well doh! I played a decent amateur level of football (soccer), anyway we had a coach that if we went in losing at halftime his team talk was always "let's go out in the second half 0-0 somehow he never convinced us.

Wilson and his newish pitch, I added him to the list as he wasnt on the original.

Here are the latest Pecota standings simulations. It has the Tigers winning 69 games on the season. So what say you Tigers fans? Over or under on the 69 wins?

I will say under. However, I say under not to be that guy that is just a professional againster. I think they will be an improved club, but if they won 69 games that would be a 22 game improvement from last season. When I look at it through that lense I just don't think they have improved enough to make that sort of leap. I would LOVE to be wrong.

He won't set the world on fire but I enjoyed his play when he was around last time. Has energy, plays hard, smart base runner.

I will take the under on 69 wins too. I hope/expect this to be a growth year where the young arms are tested but not overused.

In a rebuild situation I am all about handing out 1 year deals to vets that you can possibly flip. As long as they aren’t blocking a guy that is considered part of the future from getting experience, sign away. I wanted the Tigers to take a chance on Carlos Gonzalez last year in LF for the same reason. If these guys do not work out it is a 1 year commitment which is perfect. Like CONN CHRIS shared. He is a pro. Will work hard, can chase down a ball in a large outfield, but don’t expect him to put up the numbers he did with the Yankees last year in that joke of a stadium.

Past Players.

I think we should always live for the moment, look forward to the future but look back on fond memories so thought this would be a nice addition to the thread.

My first player of the past is Johnny Lipon, why Johnny Lipon. Well I'm in the Summer of 49 online league, a fantasy draft league in its first season. I drafted Lipon as my back up SS to Per Wee Reese, well Lipons doing so well I may trade Reese, however I digress.

Lipon played 7 seasons for the Tigers, he didn't have a spectacular career but lived most of our dreams of playing major league baseball. Not a spectacular career but one spectacular day or should that be a spectacular at bat. In 1951 Bob Feller was on his way to his third career no hitter, Lipon may not have stopped the no hitter but he did stop the shut out with the help of the Cleveland fielders. He reached first on an error, stole second base, reached third on an errant pick off throw and scored on a sac fly. Time may forget that day, it may forget Johnny Lipon but I bet Bob Feller never did.

My love affair with baseball and the team can be traced back to the ‘84 Tigers. As a young elementary school aged kid that had just discovered baseball that team was the perfect storm that created a lifelong love. However, that is not where this story goes. My player memory comes from the ‘87 club that had to sweep Toronto at home to take the division. I still remember the Detroit policemen on horseback roaming the field in an effort to keep fans from storming the field after the last out in the season finale. The ‘87 team would end up getting beat (some would say upset) by a Minnesota club that would eventually take the series from St. Louis in 7. For that reason I think the ‘87 team gets lost to history some. That ‘87 team was amazing though, which brings me to my player. What people may not know is that Tiger club could bash. They hit 225 home runs that year which still stands as the most in team history for a single season. In the middle of all of that slugging was a little known catcher by the name of Matt Nokes. Nokes was not a big imposing presence at the plate and I swear that he swung the shortest, smallest bat in the league, but he raked in ‘87. I loved all of the Tigers on that team but I had a special spot for Nokes because he just seemed smaller than everyone around him and he blasted a career high 32 homers and 87 RBI’s that season. He was the underdog that everyone could root for. That summer my father took me and my friends to a game and by chance it was a day they let all kids 12 under onto the field to get tips from the pros. Nokes was one of the guys talking about how to be a catcher. It was a pretty sweet day. One that I never forgot and was happy to share now that UK opened the door for such stories! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

My pleasure Hrycaj, I was trying to think of a Tigers memory and I couldn't. Most of my early baseball love affair started with the US Armed Forces radio which was pretty much the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers who always seemed to be on. When they started showing baseball on TV over here on a regular basis again it was the usual suspects Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Mets, Braves. It's not until the last couple of years or so with MLBtv that I've been able to broaden my viewing pleasure and I've pretty much stuck with the NL. This year will be my first season watching every game of the Tigers but every game of just 1 team.

My Tigers habit started in 1971. I grew up in Connecticut and my dad was a huge Yankees fan (remains so to this day). One of his favorites from the fifties was Billy Martin who was named the Detroit manager that year that I turned six. Dad talked a lot about Martin that season and it happened to be the first year that I paid attention to baseball. Much to Dad's chagrin, I became a Tigers fan. I soon fell in love with Ron LeFlore and in '76 The Bird cemented my lifelong obsession / affliction.

I loved Matt Nokes!! I was really sad when he was traded to the Yanks.

My overall favorite is hands down, Sweet Lou. I played second base and always tried to wear #1 in every level of baseball because of him. I liked baseball before '84, went to a few games at Tiger Stadium before then, but it was '84 that made me fall unquestionably in love with baseball. I turned 10 that year and I think my brain finally understood the majesty of the game in a way it hadn't before.

My first Tiger hero was Willie Horton, but then the guy with the black glove showed up in Detroit and I was instantly in awe. I loved watching him play 3B. To this day I've never seen another infielder throw like him. (Chapman for the A's, may be the closest) The ball came out of Aurelio's hand at the same level it reached the first baseman's glove. So hard to explain, but if I close my eyes I can see it clear as day. Oh and the smooth as silk backhands. I know this is the 8 year old in me talking, but I still say Aurelio made the same plays standing up, that Graig Nettles dove for.
It's amazing how many people consider a light hitting Third Baseman their favorite Tiger, but he was such a joy to watch.

My brother and sister were 12 and 10 years older than me. I always consider the pre-1975 Tigers my sister and brothers team. My Tigers started to arrive in 75. I'm a huge Trammell fan. I'm also a huge Jack Morris fan.

I am not a Tigers fan, per se, but lived in Michigan from 70-72, while in Jr Hi. I remembered the 68 Tigers team and spent a lot of time listening to the Tigers on the radio. Jim Northrup came to the school and gave a talk. I remember the school playing game 5 of the ALCS on the intercom.

The Tigers were probably the first team I followed day by day, although I considered myself to be a Reds fan. Kaline, Northrup, Lolich are names that still bring a smile. While still a Reds fan, I follow the Tigers a fair amount, from that connection and having a friend who is a big Tigers fan.

Should be obvious by my moniker and profile pic here who my first favorite baseball player was.

As a Rockies fan who has lived in Denver nearly a quarter of a century, I find myself far more excited about my childhood club this year than my adopted hometown club. (Fortunately, my father is still alive and still a big Tigers fan so we talk Tigers baseball at least twice a week.)

Go Tigers!
(As for the over/under on 69 wins, eh, I don't know. If under I think only barely under. I think this team will be fun and significantly improved. But I'm an optimist by nature.)
