The following rating has been tested against Colin Jones, Roberto Duran (Duran badly out of shape and even then he still defeats Lang the vast majority of the time). Mitee and LaRocca.

Kirkland Laing

Thanks Mark. It was certainly his biggest win. The other two fights he had that I remember were both against Colin Jones for the British Welter Title (I think!). He outboxed Jones with his strange style for 8 rounds in both figths and both times Jones stopped him in the ninth. I definately had him in the original board game but I think I may have made my own card. Anyway if you could find him I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers

Fantastic Dean, thanks very much. What overall rating would you give him 4/5?

You know, it strikes me that we could all save work if we coordinated our efforts. Dean and I had already rated Black Bill separately, and if Dean hadn't posted his ratings, Rasmuth would have gone ahead and rated him too.

Who is up for a division of labors?

Agreed, David. We both did Paul and others, too. I'll make a list of who I've done, and who I intend to do, but have not yet, from the 1930-50 time frame and e-mail it to you (and Dean and others if they want it). If you guys do the same, we can "trade" to save some effort. What do you think?

I've already rated alot of fighters...mostly much less talented fighters (most rated 1) to flesh out my divisions in the IPBA...I've been preoccupied putting my universe together...that's why I haven't posted except for one earlier.

Plus, I wasn't really sure people would be interested in bad fighters.

I'm all up for dividing the task of rating fighters if we can swing it. The more that get posted the better.

I love adding fighters to the game...especially the ignored weight classes....strawweight and most of the lower weight classes. Obviously I also enjoy putting more heavies in the game and such too but some of the classes are extremely thin...especially when you go to boxrec and see tons of people you can add....good and bad.

I've been working on Federico Friso for my Gerhard Zech replay and man you talk about a hard one trying to get the ratings to fall in right. I'm up to over 3000 fights with this guy tweeking ratings back and forth! The thing with him he posted a modest 23-28-7(15KO) in his career, but he lasted out his fights being stopped only 1 time in his career. 26 decision losses. I may post what I got now here since you all have been in this tread quite a bit lately and maybe someone can offer a suggestion. His W/L is coming out pretty decent and his overall # of KO's, but, I'm still getting anywhere from 4-8 stopppages of him in 58 bouts. I'll post the current ratings I got here in a minute and again maybe someone can offer any suggestion. Is it unthinkable that I can get his stoppages to replicate at say 1 or 2 at the most?

Rasmuth;
We seem to have some very similar interests. I've been doing a lot of flyweights, too, and my TF 2001 universe was called Flyworld, inluding all the active fighters from the smallest 4 weight classes.

Anyway, I also wanted to say I've added several fighters from your website and they seem to be right on, particularly some cruisers and middles.

I think the bad fighters actually improve the game because they are not just made-up opponents, but actual trialhorses and failed contenders who serve as record builders for the featured fighters.

I also agree that everytime I think I have a "complete" list of fighters for my universe (1940-50 this time), I come across someone who was an opponent of someone else I added who looks like he belongs. Then I feel obliged to add him, too!

I'll put my current "done," "working" and "wish" lists together by this weekend, save it to a Word file for backup, then PM or e-mail to you, David and any others interested. Thanks for your efforts on behalf of the game and the board members.

Agreed, the question is how to do it? either by era or division comes to mind. Generally the more recently the time period the better the game has covered the fighters. In my opinion the cut off is in the fifties.
Post fifties although there are many excellent fighters not covered by the game the vast majority of good guys are present.

Before the fifties and generally this becomes more so the further back you go, even great fighters are missing and many, many good solid contenders and journeymen.

This also applies generally to weight classes with Heavyweight having by far the greatest representation of fighters followed by the other classically popular classes such as middle and light.
In general the lower weights Feather and down have the most guys missing.

So all in favour of pooling our resources, any ideas how?

Dean, David, Rasmuth, Rocco, JR, et al;

Send e-mail addresses to me at vistaman44@yahoo.com and we'll work on this. I could set up a Yahoo! group where we can post and discuss. There's no cost, and I can have a group going pretty quickly where we can hash out the logistics, post or whatever. Send me an e-mail anyway, whether you like that idea or not, so I can send you my lists and receive yours as a starting point. Thanks.

Mark and all,

I'd love to work on something with you all. My main interest of course is HW's, 50's-60's, but I'd be willing to work in with something that you guys would like to set up. I agree the lower weight classes are where there is a real big need to increase the number of fighters.

I think the yahoo site is a great idea Mark. A TBCB Fighter Ratings Central Command sort of thing

Thanks particularly for Barry. Didn't he retire undefeated? Looks like he'll be as good as any Bantamweight in the game.
