Billy Hennessey (62145)
According to Cyber Boxing Zone Hennessey was a 'scrappy, give and take fighter' who served as a sparring partner for Peter Maher during the 1890's.
His most famous victory was a one round stoppage of George LaBlanche. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

Jimmy Kennard (10968)
Not a whole lot to go on.
Kennard's most notable win appears to be a newspaper decision over 'Rochester' Tommy Dixon. His most notable fight against the great Joe Gans ended in a sixth round stoppage loss. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

Harry Overton (84966)
Overton won the English 9 stone title in 1890, and also had a creditable victory over Tom Wooley.
His only contest against a 'database fighter' ended in a stoppage loss to Stanton Abbot. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

George Kessler (68442)
I'd love to find out more about this guy, information is thin on the ground.
His record (Boxrec) makes pretty good reading though. A 6 round points draw against NP Jack Dempsey was followed up by a KO victory over George LaBlanche, which looking at the Canadians record would suggest the beginning of LaBlanche's downturn. I've rated him as an overall 6, but I may have to return to this one. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

Eugene Bezenah (10993)
Bezenah's career was littered with draws.
He fought useful opponents throughout though never fought for a title. His most high profile victory was probably his points win over Oscar Gardner. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

Paddy Purtell (62419)
Described at Cyberboxing as being a 'scrappy, talented fighter'.
He defeated James 'Rube' Ferns, Scaldy Bill Quinn and Nick Burley. His punching power lead to only two victories lasting the distance. |

You beat me to Bezenah. He had three brothers that fought and one of the brothers had a couple of kids that also boxed as well as a daughter who fought in the 20's. bear

He probably belongs in the main database. Please have a look at what I've done with him when you have time. I've got all my ratings up to date for my uni now(1892), so I shall be adding more here on a yearly basis (uni year). |

Walter Campbell (67315)
Described by IBRO as a 'skilled and clever boxer and exceptionally quick'.
Campbell was the son-in-law of Arthur Chambers. He fought a number of fights/exhibitions against Young Griffo. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

George Chrisp (40216)
Chrisp, a geordie, claimed his most notable victory when gaining a disqualification victory over Jem Smith for the English Heavyweight Title.
He also suffered a stoppage loss to Philadelphia Jack O'Brien during the American's tour of the UK. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

Joe Hopkins (67341)
Hopkins fought 34 times over a seven year period.
He tended to mix with fighters just below championship level. A journeyman in every sense of the word. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

Jack Collier (60574)
The only non rated fighter to enter my uni in 1894.
Not much to go on. He fought eight bouts against database fighters. He was kayoed by Tommy West (5) and both his KO victories over Billy Ernst (7) were secured when Ernst was way over the top. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

Herman Miller (149098)
The sparring partner of the great Joe Gans.
Once again not much to go on, but a useful TC. Nine scraps out of forty eight against database fighters. A draw and a KO victory over Bobby Dobbs look useful, however Dobbs was over the top at the time. I thought I might find some style indications in The Sundowners book by Kevin Smith but Herman didn't get a mention. He did manage to lose five fights by disqualification so he has found himself in the 'frequent fouler' bracket. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. Frank Farley (216410)
Farley was the Boxing Coach at the John Hopkins University in Baltimore.
He was known as the 'professor' or 'the Turkey Point Adonis'. With nineteen pro fights over three years he had no stoppages to his name, in fact the only fight to end prematurely was a defeat at the hands of the above rated Herman Miller. Farley fought creditably against Tommy Cleary and Crocky Boyle, though most of his bouts were over four and six rounds. He may well have fought many exhibition bouts. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

Theodore Van Buskirk (40312)
According to Cyberboxingzone Van Buskirk was, at one time, a member of the Olympic Club in San Francisco and the Amateur Heavyweight Champion of the Pacific Coast.
He's probably best known for being James Jeffries first pro opponent. Jeffries disposed of him in two rounds, but that was his only blot on an otherwise good cv. CBZ also has notes on victories over Jim Jeffords and Mexican Pete Everett. Van Buskirk probably belongs in the database, particularly if we could dig up some more info on him. This rating is speculative and not part of the database. |

William Payne (60563)
Billy had 26 fights against database opponents, and couldn't win one of them.
No one could accuse him of ducking opponents. In a twelve year career he met Walcott, Twin Sullivan, Philadelphia O'Brien, George Cole, Bobby Dobbs, Charley Johnson and Tommy Ryan. He stopped four opponents in sixty seven fights. A good trialhorse for an early dated universe. This rating is speculative and not part of the database.
