These names....

Some of the wildest names I have ever seen. No killer for me but I do hope someone comes up with a new name pack. Had a guy from Little Rock, Ark. with a name I couldn't come close to pronouncing...I don't think so.

Agreed. The game is great, but the names are a killer for me, at least when it comes to fictional leagues. Won't set one up until I severely edit the files. I think the frequencies in the default are out of whack. Too many silly, bizarre names.

Are you implying that you can pronounce every person from the United States' name? What was the name anyways?

It's kind of xenophobic to think that people from Little Rock, Ark. wouldn't have something other than a good ol' name like "Tom Smith." Or that people don't have bizarre names. Look at the kids born to people in Hollywood. I think one kid's name was "Apple." That's a crazy f'ing name.

Anything is possible so long as humans exist.

There is a tendency for our brains to look at a large set of names and judge them as a group "weird" simply because they're unfamiliar.

As an exercise, take the names of all the players currently in MLB, and then take a set of names of similar size you won't be familiar with -- say, all the players currently in single-A. You might be surprised how "weird" the single-A names are -- but if they as a group all made the majors, they'd suddenly be familar-sounding.

Census data was used...we're populating fictional worlds and thousands of players..we're going to get strange names from cities...

Can you provide examples of the "weird names" you're seeing?

Frank Zappa named his kids Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan, and Diva Muffin

I demand names like this in the game! (not seriously )

I agree. I saw a player the other day named "Lastings Milledge" of all things! Surely a glitch. Sort it out, Matrix!

I saw a guy named "Coco Crisp" in my game! It was a game killer and I threw my laptop out of a window.

From my US based, 10% foreigner league:

Cuarto Cuecuecha

Taurino Azcuy

Turi Escarsiga

Nemisio Inigo

Shih-k'ai Zhao

Ka-Byong Yi

Iestyn Creighton

Kkoch-no-eul Kim (A classic baseball name)

Indrapramati Yelsangikar

It goes on and on. Once in a while, ok. But way, way too much.

Milton Bradley came up in one of mine, now I have an attorney wanting me to put a stupid TM after his name or he is threatening to sue me.
