just wondering

do goalies ever actually get pulled when just simming? I've never had a goalie be replaced in a game.

I've definitely noticed that they aren't getting pulled in the games I'm watching.

The upcoming match engine update might address this, although we'd need Jeff or Sebastian to clarify it.

I hope that this issue is resolved...there is no reason why the sim can't replace goalies if they are getting bombarded...heck...especially since you have the options in the gameplan (not sure if it's the actual name) page gives you the option to set when a goalie is pulled...

Case in point....Linus Ullmark got destroyed 11-2 in a game I simmed last night...he never should have gone the distance.

Of course he goes and gets a shutout in his next start, but still...lol.

I'm not sure to what extent Sebastian has integrated the new strategy and tactics with the match engine yet (should find out this week, I hope), which is where the actual decision to pull the goalie will be made, but the new engine definitely does support an extra skater. I stayed away from using arbitrary position ratings as a 'cheat' in the design - players make decisions based on the actual positioning of themselves and their teammates and opponents at any moment, rather than, say, always having a LW's offensive abilities affected by the opposing RD. That way, man-advantage situations can work more organically, an extra skater with no set position isn't a problem, and (eventually) 7-man hockey from the early years can be incorporated without completely breaking the model.

The design for the new engine also included delayed penalties, so we should see goalies getting pulled then, as well.
