Johnny Bench starts in CF

Another historical oddity: Johnny Bench starting in CF for the Reds in the second game of a doubleheader against the Braves on May 17, 1970.

I wonder how OOTP handles that (and the Lou Gehrig SS game, et cetera) - does it understand that those were gimmicks and utilize them effectively?

wow. Looking at Bench's career he played CF twice (both starts) for a total of 15 innings in the field. I knew he played some outfield, but never realized he played ANY center at all.

A 15-inning game that took 4 hours!

A lot of Red fans would have lost a bet on this one. Thanks for sharing this wild game. Reds score 3 runs in the 10th to keep the game going. Wow.

He would have been great in CF. His hands were the size of butterfly nets. I supposed range MIGHT have been an issue though.

Now I know how the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals will end. Tuukka Rask will beat Corey Crawford or Jaroslav Halak from the other side of the ice.
