Game of the Week, B.C. V. Alberta

First Game of the Week

A look at the Sunday Game of the Week, 2014/2015 season, Oct 5

B.C. Cavalry is one of the most decorated clubs in IHA history and sit in third place of the Royal League's Mountain Division at the early going.

Alberta is an offensively minded team having early success and sitting second in the same Royal League Mountain Division.

GOTW: B.C. Cavalry v. Alberta Chinooks

Two Mountain Division clubs were matched up for the game of the week.

B.C. Cavalry's goalie Alex Panishchev has had two start outs to start and his troup would strike first.

Alberta answered with two, but C Hanna got one late in the 3rd period to garner a point for the Cavalry.

Sunday, Oct 12 2014, Lake Ontario @ Vancouver

The Sunday slate featured many teams on the bottom of the tables.

Alberta versus London was the only matchup between teams both above .500, but the was Mountain #2 versus Great lakes #3.

The Mountain #3 and Great Lakes #2 featured Vancouver and Lake Ontario.

Despite the losing record for Vancouver, Lake Ontario being the all time winning team with the most championships versus Vancouver being the all-time winning team without a championship had more pull of general interest. So it was chosen as the 2nd Game of the Week

GOTW: Lake Ontario v. Vancouver

Sunday 12 October, 2014/2015 season

The battle of Toronto and Vancouver was the Sunday feature.

Lake Ontario's penalty killing ability will come up in this game, unfortunately for their fans, their scoring ability was absent.

Both teams chances were very close early on, but Vancouver struggled getting shots with even strength, but lucky for them, the visitors were vey generous in giving away power plays. The first period ended with a 14 to 10 shot advantage for the Tomahawks.

The second period opened with a 5 on 3 advantage for Vancouver, and didn't end as another penalty occurred as even strength was moments away.

Vancouver began out-shooting Lake Ontario, in the first 23 minutes, Vancouver had 5 power plays already, so many power play chances, but it proved be of no avail.

At the end of the second period, Vancouver had 7 power plays and were out-shooting the Tomahawks 21-14 keeping up with the game's trend of power play shots and no points

But all changed in the third which had zero penalties, Vancouver got its shots on even strength play and Schulters sunk one at the 10:46 mark on the 27th shot of the game for the Blazers, proving to be all they needed.

Game of the Week (3) preview

London @ Grand Rapids

Two second place teams face-off. Despite only a 3-4-2 record, Grand Rapids's 11 points is enough to be one behind Rochester in the Great Lakes division in the Patriot League.

GOTW: London @ Grand Rapids

London @ Grand Rapids

I chose London @ Grand Rapids over the very enticing match-up of Lake Ontario versus Ottawa

It opened up like a bad choice as London went ablazing out-shooting Grand Rapids like crazy and knocking in 4 very early goals adding a 5th.

Down 5-0, Grand Rapids finally found offense in the 2nd and added a deuce more in the 3rd, but too late, 5-4.

Sunday's Game of the Week

The previous post was made before this game was picked.

Ottawa is rolling and Saskatoon had overcome a somewhat slow start and has put itself in a nice position.

GOTW: Saskatoon Bison @ Ottawa Pilots

This GOTW was between two rivals, Saskatoon and Ottawa.

Ottawa is taking the league by storm, and despite 15 blocked shots (8 shots on goal) in the first period, Ottawa couldn't be stopped!

GOTW: Hamilton @ Rochester

Sunday's Game of the Week featured the Bolts and the Jets

The Jets played their aggressive style, and it allowed Hamilton the point to give them the chance to take the lead, and they eventually did.

It seemed to be a good competitive match, perhaps too competitive for the Jets.
