Better graphics, more fun!
I think OOTP Baseball has all the basic elements of a great baseball strategy sim, and hardcore fans of the game seem to love it. The game does a lot of things well.
Having said that, I think that graphics and animations should be improved for the next version. Some of us grew up with Micro League Baseball, the first real baseball sim that included good graphics. It was extremely fun to not only control the action and strategy, but to actually watch the game unfold and hold your breath as line drives flew into the outfield, and outfielders chased down the ball dramatically, like a real baseball game. The majority of time will be spent watching the animations and graphics, so if they aren't that exciting, the sim itself might be less enjoyable. You should be able to see the player uniforms more clearly, there should be real player animations, not just blips on a screen. It shouldn't say "player scores from third", it should tell you the names of the players, give things a real identity. Players should be identifiable by there height, race, hairstyle, uniform numbers, etc.. In other words, if you're going to make a sim that is this realistic, make the graphics and play by play realistic. This would take this game to the next level! Oh, and it would be nice to be able to download stats for future seasons. Last edited by Gremlin; 11-30-2017 at 03:23 AM. |

It would be a dream come true, if the animation was done well... I would use it if it ever becomes as good as Earl Weaver or Front Page Sports... and those games were 15-20 years ago.
There are making some improvements in the graphics each year, but I have never used it because it's just not very good... the audio is poor, too. Also, OOTPB needs improved PBP... make it more natural and less clunky and klutzy... like when it has the bases loaded and it has to describe what happens to all of the players. I would dearly love to just watch a game play out complete with real-looking graphic animation and professional-sounding play-by-play... I would be in Out of the Park Heaven then. I still play EWB2 and FPS:BB98. It'd be great if OOTPD could get rights to use the code for the latter

I'm sure they are already on it.
The OOTP Dev team's vision for graphics is way beyond our vision. It's just that they have limited resources so it's going to take a while implement it. I would imagine the benchmark for GFX would be what you see in earlier versions of WGT Baseball. (WGT keeps punching itself in the face with the later versions. WAY to over the top.) I think Eddie Dombrower would be hard pressed to sell his code for EWB. It's amazing he retained the rights from EA. Last edited by drksd4848; 01-24-2018 at 12:04 PM. |

As long as we can keep the historical 3D parks. I'm someone who cares more about the ballpark than having great player graphics

I love what we have right now and I buy the new license every year.
But since you asked....For me the standard was Tony Larussa OTBB, nice graphics nice historic ballparks and play by play from great all-time announcers like Mel Allen and Curt Gowdy ( today I'd settle for Bob Costas or Al Michaels.) Immersion level would be killer.

The greatest PBP belongs by far to APBA Broadcast Blast, another one I still play. Set both teams to computer control and just immerse yourself listening.

I agree, although I don't see how it would be an either/or proposition. They derive from different parts of the program, so I don't think there is a danger of a tradeoff here.
