The Pastime Boxing Association
As anyone who follows my Pastime Baseball League knows, I love cross-era matchups. I've wanted to do a boxing dynasty for a while, but wasn't sure how to proceed. Ultimately, I've jumped back to the first thought, which is to do exactly what I did with my Pastime Baseball League.
That began with an open draft of players who debuted before 1900 and since 2000. Each year, the rookie draft includes the top players from a random 3 to 5 year period in baseball history. So that brings me here to the PBA. This will include champions only. There will be more fighters in recent years of course, given the variety of titles. I will use only the WBA, WBC and IBF, though. I hate the 5 milion so-called champions. The older days had one world champion, and as such there will be fewer guys from those days. The PBA begins with champions from before 1920 and since 2000. I will begin the breakdown of weight classes later, as well as some of the other rules. |

One quick rule (there will be others as I think of them ) - Fighters will enter at the weight class they won their first title at. So, for example, Ray Leonard will enter as a Welterweight, because that was his first world title.

We open up with running down the list of heavyweights who will be the starting batch in the PBA. They will be joined by miscallaneous tomato cans as stat padders to start things off before an initial tournament for the title. For now, I'm planning on one champion and that's it.
PBA Opening Heavyweight Roster John L Sullivan James Corbett James Jeffries Marvin Hart Tommy Burns Jack Johnson Jess Willard Jack Dempsey Hasim Rahman John Ruiz Chris Byrd Vitali Klitschko Nikolay Valuev Oleg Maskaev Wladimir Klitschko Ruslan Chagaev Samuel Peter |

We move on to take a look at the PBA's opening slate of middleweights. I'll be doing the in-between weight classes, too, but am going through the main classes first.

The PBA Welterweight crop has an abundance of names as the Welterweight title has kicked around quite a bit, both pre-1900 and post-2000. While Heavies and Middles have 16 to start, the Welterweights top 30 to begin with.

At Lightweight, Benny Leonard is the presumptive leader. Remember, guys who have held multiple titles will begin based on the first title they won, so Mayweather and Pacquiao, among others, aren't in this batch as they won in other classes prior to 2000.
Jack McAuliffe George Lavigne Joe Gans Jimmy Britt Battling Nelson Ad Wolgast Willie Ritchie Freddie Welsh Benny Leonard Paulus Moses Miguel Acosta Yusuku Kobori Nate Campbell Jose Alfaro Jose Armando Santa Cruz David Diaz Leavander Johnson Lakva Sim Juan Diaz Julio Diaz Javier Jauregui Raul Balbi Leonard Dorin Jose Luis Castillo |

We move on to the Featherweights, where Barrera and Marquez will lead the more recent crop. Abe Attell is the best of the older members.

Starting off with 2 Tomato Cans per champion. So, for example, the heavies start out with 16 past champions and 32 tomato cans. To build up starting records, the autoscheduler will be set for fighters/2*12 months. So for heavies there are 288 fights to be scheduled at random. At that point I'll start setting the monthly schedule that will include the top four in a tournament to determine the initial champion.

On the fence as to whether I start with the Jr. classes, too (since there were no fighters pre-1920 in those classes as they didn't exist) or if I wait until a draft batch from the Jr-class era and add post-2000 fighters for those classes then.
Also, for flyweight, there was 1 pre-1920 flyweight champ...Jimmy Wilde! |

Cruiserweights are all post-2000, since the class didn't exist pre-1920. Decided I'll just start all the classes now.

At Jr. Middleweight, lots of good guys have passed through the class, but they'll qualify at lower classes where they first won titles.

OK, realizing as I set this up that I'm not going to be able to place guys in the lowest class they won a belt in, as the game doesn't rate them in multiple classes. So I can't let Pacquiao start as a flyweight, for example. That kind of stinks, but I can adapt.

Hi EMSoccerCoach,
I'm kind of confused with your last post. The game does rate in multiple weight classes. Manny is rated as a flyweight up through welterweight in the game. Also, if the game doesn't have a certain fighter in a lower weight class (for example, Tracy Patterson doesn't appear in the game as a JFW, his weight class where he won his first title or Jorge Paez as a FW), John Dewey does a great job with fighters throughout Title Bout history in those given weight classes. |
