trade settings

when setting a new game, trade difficulty set to average, I understand that one, however, the setting regarding prospects, neutral or veterans. If you set this to prospects, will the computer only look to trade for prospects? If so, what happens come the trade dead line? Will the computer AI only trade for prospects even if they are in it to win it?

Been playing for some time, but I have never got a grasp on where to set this?

I think it has to do with how the AI values players. For example, any player it deems a prospect is 20% more valuable to them if you select "favor prospects" and 40% more valuable to them if you select "heavily favor prospects," so your team's side of the proposed trade has to have an equitably higher amount of value for them to say yes.

Alternatively, if you offer one of your prospects the AI might give that player more value, especially if you're trying to trade for a veteran (even more so when they take the veteran's contract into account).

It's a complicated system, just like real life, which is why I keep it on neutral. I think in real life, front offices value team control more than anything, which typically means younger players making the minimum or in the first couple arbitration years. However, this fluctuates depending on positional need and where they are in the standings. Like you mentioned, it makes no sense that a team in contention at the trade deadline would continue to overvalue its prospects if they can possibly win a World Series.

Are those percentages accurate or are you just giving hypotheticals?
