Crazy finish
Had a 9-game lead in AL east in September with my Brooklyn expansion team in my 5th year, Tampa then preceded to go 24-3 in the month, then beat me in the AL east tiebreaker, I then lost the Wildcard game, anybody else have crazy finishes to the season? This one stung.

My team (Red Sox) got off to a slow start to begin the year, barely cracking .500 until June. Baltimore on the other hand was blazing hot, often above .600. Come July I was 12 games back, however having a very good farm system and still in strong contention for the wild card spot, I added another starting pitcher and an elite outfielder to help wake up my offense. (I've been in the playoffs every year for the last 10 years I was &*@! if I was going to not give it all to make it in).
By August I had shortened the gap to 6 back, while holding down a wildcard spot (barely). I get blazing hot in August to take back the lead. September, we both trade the lead back and forth about 3-4 times neither team able to get a strong lead. It literally came down to the final game in the regular season, with us tied. I ended up losing and Baltimore won to give them the division and the Bye. I end up losing the wildcard game in the 9th because my closer gets shelled for 4 runs. Also the AL east has been strong in the last couple years of this game. Standings at the end of this year was; Baltimore 96-66 Boston 95-67 New York 91-71 Tampa Bay 83-79 Toronto 72-90 Definitely one of the more intense finishes to an OOTP season I've had. |
